Janitor Amasses $8m USD Fortune

Here's how a janitor amassed an $8m fortune - Yahoo Finance

For UK people, we have translated the word "Janitor" which basically means "Cleaner" - usually they carry a sweeping brush. Well... a sweet story all around. I hope some of you idiots can do what he did. :1orglaugh

All of those talking heads telling everyone they too should live like a hermit and sock away every penny so you can die alone with a bunch of money. Sounds great.

+1

No fucking idea why the celebrate that. He should have lived more

Who says he didn't live?

ITraffic 02-10-2015 05:10 PM

Ronald Read, a former gas station attendant and janitor, was so frugal that he would hold his coat together using safety pins. He would also cut and gather his own firewood.

ITraffic 02-10-2015 05:10 PM

His attorney, Laurie Rowell, even related how he would sometimes park far away when he visits her in the office so he would not have to pay for the meter. He also drove a second-hand Toyota Yaris.

ITraffic 02-10-2015 05:11 PM

Rowell also related that before Read's death on Jun. 2, 2014, his only indulgence was to eat breakfast at a local coffee shop.

Yay.

Being frugal doesn't mean he didn't live..... he probably just had certain rules about how to live life. I've met a lot of people like that - nothing wrong with it.

well if he was holding his coat together with safety pins i think its safe to say he wasn't spending money traveling the world.

who knows, maybe he enjoyed reading books? painting or wood working? or 100s of other low cost hobbies? maybe he enjoyed cooking his own meals? who are we to judge if his way was the right way to spend his wealth? acting like a baller, driving around in a $100k car or traveling the world, isn't for everyone, some people find more pleasure in simple things in life...
