Jon Stewart says he?s leaving The Daily Show

Ending one of the most venerable and trusted careers in making a complete mockery of the news, Jon Stewart has announced that he is stepping down as host of The Daily Show. According to sources who were there (some of whom are already passing word along on social media), Stewart let the news slip at the taping of today?s episode, telling those in the audience that he?s retiring. No word yet on when exactly he?s leaving, whether this means he?s ending his time in the anchor chair to focus on being a Serious Movie Director now, or just how much this is Brian Williams? fault. Presumably all of this information will be revealed in time?and delivered by Stewart himself tonight on your television. We?ll update when we have more.

UPDATE: Comedy Central just sent out this official statement confirming the news, and saying that Stewart will remain with The Daily Show until later this year. It also says that the show will ?endure for years to come,? suggesting that it won?t end with Stewart

At lease in spirit, Stewart left The Daily Show some time in 2009.

Gotta be hard walking away from 30 million a year.

Yeah good point

The Porn Nerd 02-10-2015 11:00 PM

Bring back Kilborn!!
Apparently he's available. LOL

MiamiBoyz 02-10-2015 11:11 PM

I agree...I stopped watching it in 2009 as well...it just started to seem forced after that and sort of...well depressing more than anything else.

2MuchMark 02-10-2015 11:36 PM

That really sucks. I've been watching the Daily Show non stop since 1999 when Jon Stewart took over the desk. I had seen a couple with Craig Kilborn but it wasn't the same show at all really.

At least the show isn't ending - they will grab one of the writers maybe and make them a host. When John Oliver took over the show last summer it was excellent - I'm sure they can strike gold yet again.

Rumor has it Bill O'Riley is in talks to take his place.

Heh, you know something, I bet O'Reilly would make a great comedy host -- not sure why, but something tells me he could pull it off. Sarcasm is natural to him. The irony alone of O'Reilly even being a "guest host" would be pure gold.

arock10 02-11-2015 05:53 AM

Brian Williams is available

You have no idea what you're saying. The show has been peaking in the last few years.

Bill O 'Reilly is a mental midget and couldn't outwit a glass of water. Please don't put him and Jon Stewart in the same category. When those two have their "debates" it's like watching a cat play with an injured mouse.

Hot off the wires LOL

Why Jon Stewart and Brian Williams should just switch jobs - The Washington Post

It wasn?t long before the murmurs started ? through Twitter, through Facebook, through the nether reaches of the Internet. They called for something that at first seemed totally insane but, as it sank in, began to make sense: Jon Stewart, now as much a newsman as a comedian, and Brian Williams, now as much a comedian as a newsman, should just switch chairs.

Ha, I am not saying he'd be a replacement, or even in the same category. I am saying it'd be pure gold watching him try :)

SmutHammer 02-11-2015 07:15 AM

Good reddens, He was a sell out :2 cents:

MaDalton 02-11-2015 07:22 AM

didn't i read somewhere that he's the most trusted news source - before Fox, CNN and so on?

at least from what i saw i'd believe that in a heartbeat

That's because they aren't normally debates. he argues a few points well then goes back to the excuse that he is on a comedic network over and over. I'm a fan of stewart myself but thinking oreilly is an idiot because he's getting out joked by a comedian is foolhardy...
