what's so special with this movie, it's just another teenager movie...

Relentless 02-15-2015 05:54 PM

Brilliant film that still perfectly captures the flavor of that era.

It's a good movie. Also like it due to the Chicago ties. :2 cents:

Exactly and well said...... just takes you right back to a time was actually a good time in the world over all - there was no darkness like now.

We were toward the end of the cold war :2 cents: There was plenty of darkness.

The Breakfast Club 30th Anniversary: Molly Ringwald Talks Filming

Do you ever wonder what the movie would look like if it was made in 2015?

Yeah, no one would have talked. We would have all just been sitting there with our phones texting our friends.

Looks like it was the quality citizen times:

And while it?s unsurprising to see the Brain bristle at the sight of marijuana, the Jock, the Princess and the Brain also demonise the Criminal for smoking. It?s hard to imagine today?s teenagers would be so puritanical. The attitude of The Breakfast Club reflects a Reagan-era adolescence in which ?burning? was steeped in stigma.

:thumbsup:winkwink:

I disagree with Ringwald...... I think the dance sequence was REALLY COOL. The only thing that really surprises me is how Judd Nelson, who is the main and most vocal character and the star of this movie, failed to capitalize on it. He was awesome in Billionaires Boys Club but practically disappeared after that and I think most the rest of the cast did more movie work than him.

I wrote once before in another thread that I blame his flarey nostrils - that has kept him down - otherwise he would be where Robert Downey Jr. is doing Iron Man or something like that.

It's not as crazy as it sounds.... there's even a facebook page dedicated to his nostrils:

Huh? I remember the "big red button" and the red phone to the USSR being an ongoing unfunny gag on Night Court and other sitcoms. That scared the crap out of me when I was a young'un. Stack on top of that the recession of the 80s that added some stress to the household and the neighbourhood, and I don't recall the 80s being so sunshiney.

bronco67 02-16-2015 08:05 PM

I can only watch that movie up until the point where it tries to get all serious. Before that, Judd Nelson is gold.

mineistaken 02-17-2015 09:32 PM

Nice movie. Also refreshing to see a movie where nobody forced them to have token guys on set...

I liked Breakfast club, but not as much as everyone else I guess.

I much preferred Sixteen Candles. Different type of movie I know, but when I think of 80's movies, Sixteen Candles is always near the top. Very funny, very fun.

And if you're a John Hughes fan, look for this movie

16 candles is the same kind of movie as breakfast club and john hughes produced and directed both films.

RummyBoy 02-18-2015 08:24 AM

They were all good but come on...... The Breakfast Club was a TOTAL classic!

Actually another really cool John Huges movie is "Weird Science" - now that movie was just one of those which at the age of like mid teens you HAD to go and get from the video store..... it was a crime not to see this movie!

Not Another Teen Movie was a spoof on most of John Hughes movies with other later movies like, Can't Hardly Wait, Road Trip, Dude Where's My Car, Clueless, Cruel intentions etc. It even had Molly Ringwold in the final sequence making fun of it. But the detention scene even has Vernon in it.

rhon23 02-18-2015 09:26 AM

one of my favorite moves. I love all the John Hughes movies from that time.
