If Vinyl Records Are Popular Again

how come porn vhs tapes aren't?

make it something hipsters would collect, even have porn movie nights where they watch a bunch of vhs porn retro style.

ZeroHero 02-16-2015 07:12 AM

porn on vynil?
that is just wrong from so many reasons

HDADULT 02-16-2015 07:13 AM

Not allot players left around to play them? Could see this being a collectors item though. Next will be DVD's.

ITraffic 02-16-2015 07:14 AM

even wal mart stocks turntables again.

bronco67 02-16-2015 07:15 AM

There's some people who would say the sound of vinyl is superior to digital.

There's no one who could say VHS quality is preferable to DV, unless they needed their eyes checked. And then there's whole rewinding and fast forwarding thing.

Horrible analogy. Very stupid.

ITraffic 02-16-2015 07:34 AM

so there is no simple retro novelty to vinyl at all? everyone just buys vinyl for the superior sound quality? now THAT's stupid.

ever been to a vinyl night at some pub or bar? people aren't bringing their old records to hear their superior sound quality.

ITraffic 02-16-2015 07:36 AM

then again, despite claims by the popular press the adult industry is really 5-10 years behind current social and technological trends so any response here will be predictable.

michael.kickass 02-16-2015 07:47 AM

Vynil is great. But not for porn. :S

bronco67 02-16-2015 07:57 AM

I never liked jerking off with VHS...lots of rough edges to chafe my sensitive parts.

ITraffic 02-16-2015 08:01 AM

obviously i mean market it as a hip retro collectible type object. like how tons of hipster bands sell cassette tapes now. no one is buying a cassette tape for the superior sound quality. they sound like shit. it is just an innovative way to actually get paid for content in the age of the free download and streaming.

On a whim, I bought a Crosley Cruiser (Orange) several years ago at Urban Outfitters (along with a dozen or so albums) simply because I liked the way it looked. I chose the first batch of albums based mainly on the music but also based on the design quality of the album cover. I now have about 40 albums which I chose based on similar criteria. I enjoy the process of going to the store and flipping through the records. It's relaxing. I like the smell of vinyl and how the turntable and albums look in my apartment. Design savvy and artistic. I like listening to the albums while reading books or magazines. Very therapeutic. People also seem to like flipping through my collection and asking to play something. Maybe all that is retro or whatever but I enjoy it.

I've also never been to a vinyl night at a pub or anything like that. As a matter of fact, I'd almost rather die than go to some vinyl themed gathering in Williamsburg or some other hipster enclave. That would be just horrible. Almost as horrible as the thought of going to a middle american wal-mart to enjoy the ambience of flipping through albums.

Here's the turntable. You should get one.

When is the last time there has been such an article? I haven't seen one in years. Ironically, that perception started because of how the industry was much quicker to adapt to VHS.

The dropoff in quality from digital to cassette is just way too drastic and the artistic value of cassette covers with their cheap plastic shells pales in comparison to the artistic value of album covers.

blackmonsters 02-16-2015 09:47 AM

Correct comparison would be 70mm film instead of VHS.

You can pick up a movie projector for $100 and then play 16mm films.
The quality of film is just as good (if not better) than HD without the zit on the girl's ass looking like a giant red volcano ready to blow.

The "problem" with vinyl these days is an album costs $30! Ot $24.99 or something. WTF??

Anyone old enough to remember Tom Petty? He got in a fight with MCA Records when they wanted to release his album 'Hard Promises' at $7.98. So Petty threatened to name the album $6.98 and MCA backed down. Haha! Good times....

But seriously, thirty bucks for Revolver? C'mon now.

I miss going to record stores, like in the Village, and flipping through records. We gotta hang some time Mr. Cooper. LOL

Agreed. We should. Remember that one on the south side of 4th st. between 6th ave. and Sullivan?

As for the prices, yeah they're pretty high but I justify the expense by only buying albums with good cover design.

Cool article. Apparently Amazon has a whole vinyl store.

You have forgotten one real retro trend for digital media: switching back to ascii art at download rates around 2400 bit/s or below. Absolutely hip, no?

We still watch porn on VHS, occasionally :2 cents:

NaughtyRob 02-18-2015 09:33 PM

Because vinyl is great. VHS SUCKS ASS.

MiamiBoyz 02-18-2015 11:37 PM

People are stupid and you can market anything to lazy fucks with too much money and not enough brains. Let them buy all the records they want...FUCK THE ASSHOLES!

I do! I also remember Tower-fucking-Records on B'way and 4th. MAN I never, ever thought I would live in a world without record stores.

I used to be good friends with the dudes at Disc-o-Rama. They moved from Christopher Street to the E.Village somewhere. Now they are mostly 12 inch dance records now.

TBH I am not loving this 21st Century. At this point I would even take the horrid HMV or Virgin Records back. LOL
