dyna mo, stop hiding, man :)

You have posted some abstract indexes of "freedom" into one of threads here. All those abstract ratings are cool, but they are abstract. Let's speak about personal freedoms. I've asked you if there is something you can do in the free USA what I can't do in the totalitarian Russia? Answer to my question please :)

it appears that you are not free to blog in Russia.

The law introduces a new term: ?Internet user called blogger.? Bloggers will be obliged to declare their family name and initials and e-mail address. Those authors whose personal website or page in social networks has 3,000 visitors or more a day must have themselves registered on a special list and abide by restrictions applicable to the mass media. In other words, registration requires the blogger should check the authenticity of published information and also mention age restrictions for users. Also, bloggers will have to follow mass media laws concerning electioneering, resistance to extremism and the publication of information about people?s private lives. An abuse of these requirements will be punishable with a fine of 10,000 to 30,000 roubles (roughly 300 dollars to 1,000 dollars) for individuals and 300,000 roubles (10,000 roubles) for legal entities. A second violation will be punishable with the website?s suspension for one month.

Yes of course. There is no law that restricts shooting or keeping of porn in Russia for your own needs. According to the official law you can not distribute it, but this law does not work as well. It's like the law which doesn't allow Americans to shoot (kill) camels in Arizona or have oral sex in Florida. In fact, even the government-owned TV providers translate Private, Hustler TV and other porn channels w/o any problems.

Whaaaaaaaat??? A communist party in Russia? Are you serious? :1orglaugh The communist party in Russia is one of the smallest ones. The biggest parties are pro-government "Единая Россия" and "Справедливая Россия" (Google is your friend). There are also opposite ones like "ЛДПР", "Яблоко", "Парнас" and new Progress-party created by Navalny. Russia is not North Korea or USA, so we have much more than 1 or 2 parties here :pimp

No, only CP is banned. Any other kinds of porn (even those forbidden in the States) are ok. The distribution of CP (not viewing or keeping of it) is the only case when anti-porn law is being enforced.

Not exactly. When people really cross the line, the law is being enforced (see above).

MrBottomTooth 02-25-2015 09:25 AM

You can't buy a handgun. Or even a semi-auto with more than a 10 round magazine. And you can't own more than 10 guns unless you register as a collector. And you have to own a shotgun for 5 years before they let you buy a rifle. WTF?

In fact I can. I just need to get a license for it. However it's not a good example of freedom, because it also differs form state to state in the USA.

Sheesh, police force is becoming really excessive in the US but isn't this a recent thing?

When I see this, I just keep thinking the American Government is preparing for bad times and therefore best strategy is to militarize the police because of things like Ferguson and what happened in New Orleans.

We're approaching something big not just in America but that could be epicenter.

Some of you will argue that you wouldn't like to live in India or Africa or even China or Russia, but they are much more free places than America (but only in SOME respects). And if you have more freedom you might also have less stability because of it. Then again, Alaska legalized marijuana today....

Don't give head in Florida is an old law that at one time would have been enforced. Registering your blog is a new law, fresh, just made, and you are saying it doesn't get enforced. Why does Russia create new, silly laws, with no intention of enforcing them?

You keep saying that everything these guys are finding about Russia is made up and not true. Based on your own logic, it seems entirely plausible that everything you are saying is straight up BS as well.

"In March 2014, the prosecutor general instructed the state telecommunications agency Roskomnadzor to block four popular opposition-oriented websites: Ezhednevny Zhurnal, Grani.ru, Kasparov.ru, and Navalny’s blog. Dozens of other sites were blocked during the year for vaguely defined offenses such as carrying “extremist content.”"

Yes, that's correct. The police is really restricted to travel the world. If you don't like it, get another job and be free. I really don't feel for cops. I believe they need much more restrictions. Maybe someday they realize the Putin (who they protect) constantly assrapes them, and they will stop supporting his regime.

But once again... It's all about YOU and ME. I'm not a cop or an FSB officer.

Yes they are trying to block them, but it doesn't work. First of all, there is no punishment for running a blog. They can only block the IP. This is very bad and very stupid thing, because every kid knows how to open it (some Russian ISP's even put detailed instructions how to bypass the site block). I do agree it's against of freedom of speech, but still. We are talking about what YOU can do and I'M can't. Navalny is #1 Putin's enemy and they have a personal war (BTW, his site is available from Russia: HostTracker - Http result for http://navalny.com). I'm not a #1 enemy of Putin like you are not #1 enemy of Obama, right? You even not a native American living in a reservation. So let's get back to OUR reality. What exactly you can do but I can't? Where is your freedom? How can I feel the difference?

I think it's a false information. I've never seen it here and I've never seen any complaints from them. Police and FSB - yes. FSB officers have always been restricted from traveling to other countries. Now police was added and it's their problem (I didn't ask them to vote for Putin). Hope the lesson will be learned.

Yes, a pretty bad thing "by design", But in fact it just didn't work. I don't really need any VPN/TOR/Proxy/Special browser plugins or anything else to bypass it. I just have to enable "Turbo Mode" in Opera browser and all their blocks will disappear. So once again: it's very bad (I'm agree with you here) law, but it can't be enforced. Technically.

Komrade, I've never claimed to be smart about Russia, I did claim to believe the studieS that America in totality, is overall, in general, for most people, more free than Russia. So claiming I've made a stupid mistake is not accurate. You started this thread and challenged me re: specifics on comparing individual freedoms between us specifically, which has been fun exercise so far, I am learning a lot!

Remember, I've posted things asking if they are accurate, or reality, etc, not as facts, so clearly i've never claimed being smart about Russia.
