Can adult webmasters visit countries where pornography is banned?

Hi,

I am an ex webmaster have have a question about travel. I want to make a round the world trip and I am concerned.

I had a legal adult business with a high traffic website and had no problems at all and I sold it in 2012. It was an English language website and targeted towards Americans however anyone in the world could access it. I now wish to make a trip around the world including countries like China, Thailand and UAE.

I am quite a paranoid person and my concern is that because my website was accessible to these countries (due to the nature of the internet), I could have been seen to supplying porn to their citizens? Is this a valid concern or am I being overly paranoid?

Have webmasters been in trouble while travelling before? Or do countries where porn is illegal just target their citizens.

Because I have left adult I would not be working on my sites, carrying any pornographic material on me nor would I be shooting content.

Thanks for all your help and hope this thread can be helpful to others too.

Yeah, they will most likely find you and sentence you to death via firing squad.

Being involved in adult entertainment is kinda like the mob. The only way out is in a box.

Roald 03-03-2015 11:12 AM

Unless you're carrying a sign saying you sold smut online you are fine. Traveling a lot myself without issues.

But your sites dont have traffic, so why the fuck compare your life with this guy?

MrBottomTooth 03-03-2015 11:25 AM

Whatever happened to the letters from Germany that said you needed to put your site behind some sort of AVS or risk being considered a criminal in their country? A lot of the older big sites used to get them. Just wondering if anyone that got them ever tried travelling to Germany.

Here's an old thread where sleazydream got one:

Serious answers please gentlemen, it gives me a lot of concern.

klinton 03-03-2015 12:29 PM

no worries about Thailand or China.
but first of all - if you sold it and have nothing more in common with this biz, why do you worry ? thats the first thing
and the second is: unless you brag what you do and INVOLVE local people anyhow to that kind of business, you should be OK.
and unless of course you are Iranian citizen who happens to travel to Iran...

I was serious, really what is your concern? You're not in porn anymore right? Even less to worry about.

So what was the high traffic website that gives you this concern?

I worry because citizens of those countries could access my site, maybe I have been put on a blacklist. It is why I want to know if any webmasters have had trouble.

Secondly, I want to stay far away from adult now.

Thirdly Iran is off my list and always has been. Don't worry :1orglaugh

You gave me a serious answer, thanks for that. :) My number one concern is the above, citizens from countries such as China could access my site therefore I could be seen to be supplying porn in those countries.

Any input?

takethebluepill 03-03-2015 12:47 PM

You have nothing to worry about. I spend almost an equal time traveling as I do in my home and have never had any issues at all. This includes North/Central/South America, Europe, and Asia.

Now if you were dealing in kiddie porn or any of the fringe crap, that would likely be another story. However, even then, chances are, if another government had the goods on you, your own government would have hopefully arrested you by now. (Disclaimer..I'm not in anyway claiming that you were operating in the fringes).

Travel away. The world is your oyster.

why to go to shithole where they have banned porn? that must be some kind of special fucked up part on earth, there is still places like that? :helpme

RandyRandy 03-04-2015 04:02 AM

I have an active Clips4Sale store that brings in about $50 a month. I've lived in Malaysia for about a year now. So far, so good.

aka123 03-04-2015 04:10 AM

Answer is; yes you can, and yes; you can get into trouble. Although porn is not the only online activity or business that can get you into trouble. For example US has some pretty shitty laws and the legal practices are not very "user friendly".

But the risk is very low, unless they have already reached for you because of some issues.

You can have all sort of issues starting from copyright issues, trademark issues, client disputes, etc. If you have those issues and you visit a country where they are eager to throw people into cell, you have some small risk.

I remember the sleazydream thread and always just cross that country off any travel plans. Why risk it?

THIS! DO NOT TRAVEL AS A PORNOGRAPHER!

You have to be crazy, alot of these countries force registars to share whois records with them. I know at least 2 guys in jail right now for the exact thing you mentioned.

Do not travel to any countries that are anti porn! Unless you have $100k on hand to bribe the customs. Do not even think of it.

Good advice. Everything else in this thread is pretty much fear mongering crap

Based on which law could they arrest you? Each country has its own laws that are applied within the borders and if you don't break them while visiting that country, why would you worry? I am lost here..

It's not any of their business what you do outside their territory.

MaDalton 03-04-2015 07:27 AM

the only time i ever had an issue was at immigration at the airport in Phoenix - because they wanted to see my papers for the Phoenix Forum and it had in large letters printed "sponsored by Pussycash" on it

but no problems in Thailand or so

It was only a couple years ago that a Canadian i believe was arrested in Iran for software he created in Canada (adult top list script or something like that).

Anyway, only naive people believe that they can't get in trouble in 3rd world shitholes for any reason at all, real or not. Anyone thats traveled enough understands fully that anything is possible, particularly when some low rent assholes smell both money and opportunity.

klinton 03-04-2015 07:48 AM

OP you worry over nothing, pick up your passport and go travel. if your not working there is no problem any where world wide.

Did he carry the software with him? How did they know who the guy was?

Anyway... its 100% irrelevant what the "facts" are. If you are in a shitty country and they want to make your life hell, it doesn't matter what the law is. Anything is possible.

Yes, each country has its own laws. If I have my own country at one day; it will be punishable to eat french fries in France, or hamburgers in Hamburg. If you visit my country and we find out or have found out your felony; you are busted.

Countries can punish for whatever they want. The only problem they have is the capability to punish, but if you are inside their borders, they are able to reach you.

Never heard of tourists visiting a particular country and getting arrested in there for something they had done outside that country, unless they were on the list of internationally wanted criminals of course.

Play by their rules and you are safe. :2 cents:
