Scientific reason for coldest winter on record in the middle of 'global warming' crisis?

Seriously, what are these scientists saying is the cause for the coldest temperatures in recorded history while we are supposedly at the same time heating up the planet to a disastrous degree?

I'm not mocking them, there must be a reason for what seems to be a paradox.

beerptrol 03-04-2015 03:34 AM

the planet's average temp increasing(global warming) doesn't mean the whole planet will be experiencing warmer temps.

k0nr4d 03-04-2015 03:47 AM

Actually, in Poland we have had increasing warmer and warmer winters. It barely fell below zero this year and the last 2 years, whereas 8 years ago it was even -20c. Also pretty much no snow whereas 8 years ago when I got here there'd regularly be half a meter most of the winter.

As already said: the temperatures are measured globally and even then the timeline is tens or even hundreds of years. You know, some sort of statistically relevant timeline. Of course we have the past timeline, we are not starting the measurements today.

Around here it has been fucking mild winter (warm).

By the way, we are not heating the planet to a disastrous degree to start with. You have got it wrong. It isn't going to be some baking owen.

~Ray 03-04-2015 04:09 AM

it's global warming if only our planet is getting warmer. How are the other planets?

Yes that's it exactly, average temps are climbing minisculely and so slowly that we can't even prove it's man made, against a backdrop of extreme weather conditions with the coldest, warmest, dryest and wettest etc seen since records began.

Global warming is a bit of a misnomer, which is why people are increasingly talking about "climate change".

aka123 03-04-2015 04:41 AM

Well, climate change is hard to deny as the growing CO2 density in atmosphere is climate change per se. And undeniably human actions release huge amounts of CO2 into atmosphere. So, human made climate change. Nothing to deny about.

A reasonable person would think so.

There is a big big world outside of North America.

Manfap 03-04-2015 07:43 AM

It's been pretty warm over Europe this winter.

The world is bigger than North America.

North America is getting colder. Europe is getting warmer.

Russia thinks the United States is surrounding Russia with its military. We have the world fooled. The United States is surrounding Europe, and IN Europe.

Coincidence? I think not! We're taking our homeland back!

Perhaps you should read about global warming, aka climate change just a little before committing on it?

Also perhaps understand that the Earth does not revole around the United States....

Global warming deals with the ENTIRE Planet Earth, not just a few states in the mid west or new england.. The AVERAGE temperature of the entire planet is rising. Due to this there will be weather extremes both cold and warm across the entire planet.

This has been stated over and over by scientists yet it seems to fall on death ears with certain people usually belonging to a certain political party... it's sad that 3rd graders likely have a better grasp on what global warming is vs some adults whom love to pretend it doesn't exist.

SmutHammer 03-04-2015 08:18 AM

3rd graders don't - they just don't question what they're told. The earth's climate is poorly understood. It may be that man is having an effect on the earth's climate; it may not be the case. There is no proof, and at present, no way to actually put the question to rest. For the moment, it is best to move towards greater sustainability, gently, without alarm, and without enriching those who declare themselves ready to solve the problem they don't completely understand. The unfortunate attachment of apparent absolute certainty to schadenfreude surrounding the USA makes the arguments less compelling, not more so. In general, is it not best to be careful and deliberate when influencing the lives of billions?

Inform yourself.

Saying its cold in winter is not an argument for the denial of climate change. If anything, the severe weather is a symptom of it.

There was a congressman who brought a snowball onto the house floor to prove a point about global warming, and only ended up looking like another misinformed idiot. "Hey look! Snow! Therefore, climate change is BS".

It's like being in a rainstorm and saying "It's raining. That means droughts are a hoax."

CDSmith 03-04-2015 08:46 AM

Global coldening is real. You people need to wake up and quit ignoring this threatening trend going on right under our noses.

Global Warming is a old term that dumb asses keep using, the climate is going to get worse ether way, do some research, listen to something intelligent while you work or something.

We should be way more worried about the oceans.

complete nonsense. absolutely entirely wrong.

IPCC Third Assessment Report - Climate Change 2001

Quote:

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated very clearly, ?Milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms.?

Many global warming activists are still attempting to defend the discredited IPCC prediction, claiming a single winter does not invalidate a long-term trend. As the Union of Concerned Scientists claimed, ?Winters have generally been warming faster than other seasons in the United States and recent research indicates that climate change? is causing it. The problem with such an assertion is that last winter was exceptionally cold and snowy, too. And winters nationwide have been getting colder for the past 20 years.

Objective scientific data show winters have been getting colder and colder throughout the United States for the past two decades. When global warming alarmists claim winters will become warmer and free of snow, yet their predictions are proven false for 20 years in a row

The earth's magnetic field is shifting and with it the northern polar vortex. It was on the news two years ago when it actually shifted towards new england. That's why the last few winters in the northeast have sucked and many more will.

The Porn Nerd 03-04-2015 01:51 PM

Well, considering the Gov't is fucking with the atmosphere via HAARP, in an effort to both make oil drilling easier in harsh climates and to fuck with local weather systems in hostile countries, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to find out the Gov't is bringing on the cold in an attempt to balance the Earth after fucking with it via HAARP.

Or something.

There has been much about the shifting of magnetic field, but not about that kind of end result you say. There is no proof about changes in flora and fauna because of magnetic fields shifting. Warmer weather would cause changes in flora and fauna.

This isn't true. While the magnetic poles are shifting, it is not causing the polar vortex nor having any affect on weather.

You can read more about the Polar Vortex on ScientificAmerican.com : What Is This “Polar Vortex” That Is Freezing the U.S.? | Observations, Scientific American Blog Network

And you can read more about the Magnetic shift on NationalGeographic.com : North Magnetic Pole Moving Due to Core Flux

HAARP has no effect on the weather. This is ancient conspiracy theory nonsense sprinkled with pseudo science by nut jobs, nothing more.

Exactly, this is why they basically changed the term from 'global warming' to 'climate change'

You get a general, gradual, average increase in temperatures over a long period. It is accelerating for sure and its a big problem for humanity. The only time we'll take it seriously is when enough of our land is taken by water - we will look back in history and see that Gore was actually right.

Global Warming should rather be called 'global climate change'
Rising average temp changes the major streams [like Gulf Stream]
The alteration of these streams results in unexpected temperatures. Too high or too low.

To those who question global warming/global climate change:

1) Leading Climate Denier and Harvard Scientist Took $1.2 Million Bribe From Oil Companies
2) Believe me I am a fucking environmental engineer :pimp and I say there IS a global climate change and It Is Because of the recent [decades] human activity. Not a natural thing.
