She used a personal email account for all communications. Government officials are not supposed to be doing that, certainly not the Secretary of State.

Yep they should clearly see she got caught doing something that they all most likely do.

If she can not cover this up she wont be very good at covering up other things and therefore useless to the US as a president.

Not her own computer system. It was an email domain hosted on a an IP with over a million other domains. Real secure shit she had going on.

This has been a real problem in government for some while. It needs to stop. Bill was the first big adopter of email in the WH. Not sure if he had off-the-record email accounts, but GWB did with gwb43.org.

Too bad [email protected] is no longer used. I have a few business ideas I'd like to pitch to her. Would involve getting some laws changed and she's pretty good at that.

Actually, I am pretty sure it is Gawker Media that first put the pieces together. That is as liberal of a company as there is.

Jim Cook was on the case for Gawker two years ago. He left there for awhile to head over the The Intercept (Glenn Greenwald's publication).

Colin Powell exclusively used his own private email as well. The next one didn't, and Hillary did. It became mandatory to use a provided email account AFTER CLINTON WAS OUT OF OFFICE. Kerry is the first secretary of state in history who was compelled to use one specific email address and he does. Story over. There's a fuck lot of partisan campaigning here and nothing else. Strap in for the silly season.

Any communication by government officials regarding government business should be accessible by authorized government officials - and stored in an encrypted manner on government servers.

I see it more of a security issue.

A foreign power or military contractor could say this US government official said this and then he produces a manufactured, fabricated document. Emails sent or received are logged on servers and their content retrievable FYI (subject to subpoena)

I would not be surprised if most of these "government official" emails are of a personal nature to their families and friends. Perhaps, communications of political policy nature. These are private communications and not the government's or public's property.

Any individual using email for surreptitious purposes would use high level encryption anyway so what is the point?

This.. the president can't do it nor should any other elected/ appointed govt officials. If she broke the rules then she should be held accountable.

However the same rules should apply to all elected, appointed govt officials.

As usual, your argument is 100% wrong. What Colin Powell did or did not do has nothing to do with today as he was not subject to the same rules and regulations and acted within the law. Hillary however knew she was breaking he law as she is an attorney who was also constantly briefed on policy and procedures and required communication practices as was her staff.
