It looks like I got screwed, what should I do
I'm sure that's not the first time things like this happen so maybe you guys can tell me how should I proceed. So:
- following my thread about a marketing guy needed i got contacted by several people - one of them is an old member of this forum and e showed extensive knowledge on the subject - he made me an interesting offer, i checked his name and company and found nothing wrong so, based on the invoice he sent me, I paid him some money (half of the first month fee for development and marketing) - after two weeks it seems he is not going to execute the services or to return the money (he didn't event sent me the detailed plan to agree on) How should I proceed in order to get my money back? Besides writing his name public and preventing others from being scammed also, is there any legal action I might take? It looks like fraud to me... |
How did you send payment?
|
Sorry to hear that. Sucks when it happen. Legal action for two weeks pay. Nope!
Not worth it. Public mention is probably your best bet. Won`t get you the money back but at least you can tell your story and so can he. Then others can make up their own mind. Best of luck to you. |
the hardlinks guy? post his nick!
|
Spill the beans ...
|
Who was it?

Damn, expose him. It might have been a scamming fake nick.
p.s. should have hired me. Still need the work done? |
Name them, this thread is useless without a name. What's their nick ?
|
Why even post if your not going to name the person? Help the people of gfy out by naming scammers.

Well ............. Out the fucker.

Expose them. I know I personally do a search for every person before I do business with them on GFY. I avoid business with people that have mention of customer service issues (if they seem legit) . I also avoid doing business with people that carry themselves in a typically unprofessional way on the forums. So by sharing the info you could at least keep the next person from getting scammed and hopefully the next person will do the same in turn.
Doing research I think has mostly made my business dealings here pleasant. Only issues I have had was someone who took many many many months to deliver a custom shoot deal and one other bulk picture deal I purchased that was beyond crappy content that I still haven't gotten my licenses for and 1 FB account issue that while unpleasant was refunded. So 2 not great experiences out of literally probably thousands of business deals is a pretty good average based on people sharing good and bad info about dealings on here. |
That sucks
|
Don't be shy...everyone is an adult here!
|
I paid by credit card.
And I'm waiting a few more days before exposing the guy ... he did finally answered me and I hope he will prove not to be a scammer after all ... |

If you get screwed you need to set that precedent so others don't fall victim as you did in the future. I get that not naming someone keeps a level of integrity intact but if you get scammed you owe no such respect towards said scammer. Everyone remember this thread in a week. Also... even if you prematurely out them... it may just align their bullshit and encourage them to follow up on your agreement and deter future mishaps for you and others. GFY is often fun and games but its still very useful in keeping people on the up n up. |

No shame in being ripped off. You trust people. But when wronged I think the correct retribution is to make their methods known. |
Yup, dispute charge with your credit card company. They usually make you wait 30 days before they go forward, but you will get your money back.
|
Did they post in your thread looking for a marketing guy?
|
hope you get it all worked out!

You were right guys ... he's just trying to delay me as long as possible. He promised the plan will be sent no later than ... yesterday :(
So I have to accept I was scammed and I'm not as smart as I thought ... His name Brandon Kagey, he's company is ScriptWorkz Ltd, now inactive it seems (Brandon Kagey - Previous Managing Member for Scriptworkz, LLC), his e-mail is [email protected] and the GFY user is also ScriptWorkz. I opened the dispute today, but I feed worse about getting fooled than about 1500$. You think I should also report him to US authorities for fraud? Just to make sure he won't do this with others in the future? |
US authorities are not going to care about some guy in Romania getting scammed out of $1,500 for an adult project.
$15,000,000 might get their attention. |

I realize my dealings here are probably small fries compared to some but is it normal for $1500.00 to be paid up front for work? I mean my web designer only requires a 50% deposit. My SEO company I tried out several smaller projects before hiring them full time. Perhaps I am naive as to what kind of projects are arranged here. I can't think of a single thing I would need done I would send some one 1500 bucks upfront I have never done business with before. Especially not on paypal which may or may not properly protect me as the purchaser. Not that 1500 bucks is actually much money in the grand scheme of things I just hate the idea of anyone getting my money undeserved. Hell I am paranoid over purchases that are just a couple hundred bucks, lol.

The scam was a professional one as credit card company told me today, the account where money were received is on another name, probably fake: Eric Frye
