Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear host, suspended by BBC after 'fracas'

BBC News - Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear host, suspended by BBC after 'fracas'

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC after what it called a "fracas" with a producer.

Sources said he was accused of hitting the producer in an incident last week, and the remaining three episodes of the current series might not be broadcast.

The BBC confirmed one episode - due for broadcast on Sunday - would not be shown, but gave few further details.

Clarkson, 54, has not commented, but has been joking on social media about films that could replace Sunday's show.

He was given what he called his "final warning" last May after claims he used a racist word during filming.

At the time, he said the BBC had told him he would be sacked if he made "one more offensive remark, anywhere, at any time".

In a statement earlier, the BBC said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.

"No one else has been suspended.

"Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday.

"The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

He probably just finished watching old re-runs of the Sopranos and hit on the episode where Tony beats up his body guard just to let everybody know he is the boss.

Your are so right, an employee should have the right to assault people they are working with.

It's political correctness gone mad.

What next send these poor people to prison?

Is it the fault of the Muslims?

you must be joking. after all the shit the bbc has let clarkson get away with you're claiming they do the right thing now? when the producer who got hit didn't file charges and wants everyone to get back to work, after the bbc made this into a huge overblown drama and is punishing millions of viewers by withholding the show from us? because some drunk irish twat got popped by a fat overweight dude who couldn't lift 5 pounds over his head?

right.

fuck the bbc.

Jel 03-25-2015 11:59 AM

I'm firmly in the smack some cunt in the mouth if they deserve it camp, but thinking that you wouldn't be sacked for it is bonkers. Not sure that clarkson himself thinks he shouldn't be sacked - in fact he strikes me as precisely the kind of person who sees nothing wrong at all with being sacked for it - but his 'supporters' in this issue are coming from a somewhat bizarre place, imo.

If you get away with it that's one thing, but to cry foul when you don't? Come on now..

Apparently, punching someone once is MUCH MUCH worse than sexually assaulting children and the disabled, for decades... in the eyes of the BBC. They protected Jimmy Savile, EVEN after the investigation showed what a monster he really was, the BBC quashed the in depth documentary showing what he really was, and instead showed a documentary lauding his life's work.

Infowars is mostly a bunch of utterly silly conspiracy crap that I don't pay attention to, and the remarks about gay scenes on TV shows is just stupid, but they do raise some good points about the double standards of the BBC regarding Clarkson...

sperbonzo 03-26-2015 06:44 AM

Personally, I hope that the three hosts get some private funding, and put together their own show. There will be a TON of distributors DYING to buy an independently produced car show with Clarkson, May, and Hammond. I would be willing to bet that most of the 350 million people who watch the show now, would watch it even if the BBC wasn't producing it.

I hope they go for it!

That's really a great idea. They could do it so easily. With their experience it would be just as awesome without all the PC restrictions and they'd make even more bank no doubt because they have the time to cut a better deal.

Earlier Alan Yentob (director of creative) gave his word which makes me think they're trying to leave a door open because they've probably already anticipated that he might do what you said:

I like clarkson, but 2 wrongs don't make a right :2 cents: the whole savile thing has zero to do with what clarkson did, or how the bbc handled it. Totally irrelevant :thumbsup

exactly, and that's what they'll probably do, assuming there aren't legalities preventing it :thumbsup griping about getting sacked for punching someone in the face is insane (again, I notice clarkson himself hasn't done much griping, not that I've seen anyway)

It was a smack in the middle of a 20 minute heated argument, and the guy that was hit didn't even want to press charges.... he just wanted to get on with the production right after it happened. The BBC could have suspended Clarkson for one show, and sent him to sensitivity training or something.

I think that they were looking for an excuse to get rid of him, because he didn't follow the BBC party line on political correctness, and whatever agendas they want people to support....

yeah I agree, that's most likely what it was. Though it's not a huge surprise is it? It's a bit like a footballer doing something to warrant a red card... you know you acted in the heat of the moment, you know it's just one of those things, the other guy knows it's one of those things, and just wants to carry on (most of the time anyway), but ultimately you know the red card is deserved so you suck it up. What happens is that the supporters of the team the carded player plays for get all het up about how it was nothing, nobody got hurt, it happens all the time in a physical contact sport, player x did worse but didn't even get booked in that other game with the same ref, and so on and so on. All valid points to a degree, but all ultimately trying to justify an action that most of the time you just aren't going to get away with, and 9/10 times you accept the consequences of losing your head - which it seems clarkson has done, but the supporters haven't. And yeah I get that footballers only get suspended etc for x games, but like any analogy it's not an exact replica of the situation :thumbsup

99.9999999% of people know inside when they have done wrong (even if their ego won't allow them to admit it out loud) which is why I think clarkson has said pretty much fuck all on it - I admire him for that tbh, like I admire anyone who owns things, holds their hands up and says yep, I fucked up, and I'll take whatever comes my way.

What is interesting to me is how most people take umbrage on clarkson's behalf. Not saying it's right or wrong, just interesting :)

JeepersCreepers 03-26-2015 09:34 AM

Damn, this show must be closed then

I don't know what gay scenes you are talking about but as you know, the BBC's Doctor Who is a children's programme and they feature a couple of recurring characters that are in an interspecies lesbian relationship - on a kids programme! They have even made a joke about one of the characters (a lizard woman) having a very long tongue!

In all honesty, I can see a US network picking him and the crew up if the rest followed him. I also believe they'd have a lot of fun doing it.

I have a feeling that they made it clear to him that he wasn't wanted, and if it wasn't this incident, then they would figure out someway to get rid of him soon... So he just decided to say fuck it, I can go have more fun and make more money doing something else anyway....

My umbrage with the BBC has to do with the fact that they were so out-to-get-him and that they are so agenda driven, not about this final outcome per se....

i don't see the magic of this show being recreated elsewhere. + the top gear brand is the BBC's. not to mention no other broadcaster has the reach to 350 million people.

I hope people are noting the people who think it is alright to shout and verbally abuse a fellow worker for 20 minutes and then assault him.

Bare it in mind if you are ever offered a job by these people.

Clarkson's racist nonsense shows itself in his actions, like a spoilt child he throws a tantrum because a hotel had stopped serving hot food.

All the other sad bitter white right wing men who think the black/muslims/women have taken over the world and ruined their "fatherland" think the retard Clarkson some sort of hero.

Why does the left politicize everything?

This was a work related incident, nothing to do with politics or ideology. But the BBC politicized it and you all follow suit on social media, jumping on every hashtag to promote an agenda. It actually looks quite lame and desperate.

behaving like a spoilt child apparently means that person is racist. Who knew.

I won't bother pointing out that those who think it's ok, are obviously ok with smacking the boss in the mouth, so if they offer you work, they are giving you free reign to punch them should you get annoyed - no reason to stick a black mark against them for that POV.

Cherry7 03-28-2015 02:35 AM

Its the big bad BBC bullying poor little Clarkson with their political correctness, hiring Muslims instead of big busty blond English girls.

http://i100.independent.co.uk/articl...id--l14ffimcfe

Clarkson was criticised by the BBC Trust after a Top Gear special in which he referred to "a slope" on a bridge, which was being crossed by a Thai man.

He previously expressed regret for a an outtake from Top Gear in which he could be heard to utter the N-word while reciting the rhyme "Eenie Meenie Minee Mo".

Clarkson has been criticised for jokes about Mexicans and other national groups during previous editions of Top Gear.

Clarkson is a racist bully. Guilty of criminal assault. I can see why the right and racist retards here like him and defend him.
