I want to understand this . . .

All American thermos thing, like there are no coffee shops around, why, da fuck why would I want to carry a home made coffee like he does?

http://cdn01.cdn.justjared.com/wp-co...glasses-04.jpg

MrBottomTooth 03-17-2015 09:55 AM

You can get a whole pot of coffee cheap rather than getting ripped off at Starbucks. It's portable so you can carry it around with you and drink at your leisure instead of being stuck with a one use cup. You can make nice brews at home with your own grinds instead of drinking crap fast food coffee, etc

MrBottomTooth 03-17-2015 09:57 AM

Also maybe he spiked it with kahlua or Bailey's at home.

I personally cant stand coffee. Tastes like hot dog shit.

pornmasta 03-17-2015 10:06 AM

french coffee cup, if you buy it at some pub:

http://www.yowazzup.com/coffee/image...e-cup-ring.jpg

Vacares 03-17-2015 10:09 AM

Coffee shops will fill up your own cup or thermos if you wish. Using a thermos instead of using a disposable coffee cup means you save a minimum of 20 coffee cups a month, assuming you get one coffee every working day. Most coffee drinkers get more than one.

420 03-17-2015 10:21 AM

It's probably full of clam chowder. Although, I suppose it could be full of starbucks because he doesn't like advertising for free by carrying their cups around.

L-Pink 03-17-2015 10:26 AM

It's a movie, maybe they wanted a logo free cup.

CurrentlySober 03-17-2015 10:28 AM

you can use it to pee in and screw the top back up to take your pee home

I didn't even notice the boom. That's probably it. Starbucks don't need no stinking product placement.

Sednub997 03-17-2015 10:47 AM

The coffee I make at home is much better than most coffee shops.

Although I will admit there are a handful of cafe's around that make an excellent cup. Unfortunately none of them are conveniently close. Starbucks is shit coffee.

If I needed to go to work outside my home I would seriously consider a thermos.

Plus you save time of going to the shop, waiting in line. It is important if yo uare on a break (like the pic may suggest).

Sid, it's a movie set dude. Every single thing within frame is there for a reason. Or maybe he's on a break and the caterer gave him something hot to drink?

SplatterMaster 03-17-2015 02:52 PM

Disgusting. That?s like why would anyone want to bring a homemade sandwich when there are hundreds of delis around?

Love, I know that, just a good illustration of what I saw in the US when I lived there. I worked in Brooklyn and NEVER did that "thing" while tons of other people did, tell me they were saving for the next big american thing.

bring your own coffee + sandwich to work every day and you can easily save $1-$2k per year... not to mention all the time saved... nothing wrong with that...

If you only get a 30 minute lunch break you're pretty much forced to bring your own lunch to work.

Fuck, I thought Americans do not give a fuck about that, blame me for being a 3rd wold country born - bringing food to work always associated with a low income Soviet job style.

Wow nobody mentioned the actual reason for a thermos, to keep your beverage hot for a long time. Mine is rated at 12 hours.

buying food at work = high fat sodium/sugar content aka garbage food.

Wowzer. But now I understand why I gained weight while working in America and lost it immediately on my return to the 3rd world.

Sid70 03-18-2015 08:45 AM

But in general, taking a coffee thermos to work in Europe is sorta unbelievable and WTF like.

Yeah, you will save $1-$2k per year and pay for it with your health. Eating like that (as we say "всухомятку") is a straight way to gastritis and obesity. Hot soup, salad and second course is the necessary minimum for a dinner.

That's true. Actually the things didn't change here since then. Even a poor student prefer to eat in cafe. Health is not something to can save money at :2 cents:

2 completely opposite opinions. One says it is much healthier to bring your own handpicked food, another says - its is unhealthy.

I am with BC on this one - you can bring quality handpicked food for yourself.

In accordance with the Labour Code, we have a hour for that here. The same a in Soviet times.

If you can bring hot soup / pelmeni, fresh salad, the second course (say pasta with a chicken / kasha / patoes / etc) + hot tea/coffee, then of course it's healthy and you are ok with that. But I doubt any sane person would bring so many dishes to his work :)

i used to know a good joke about a girl who got her dildo mixed up with a plaid thermos.

dyna mo 03-18-2015 09:27 AM

This guy just started at his new job, working at a porno shop. His boss comes out and tells him that he has to leave for a while, and "can you handle it?"
The new employee is somewhat reluctant, but with the boss's positive comments he finally agrees. So, the guy is there by himself for a little while and a white woman comes in. She asks;
"How much for the white dildo?"
He answers, "$35."
She, "How much for the black one?"
He, "$35 for the black one, $35 for the white one."
She, "I think I'll take the black one. I've never had a black one before." She pays him, and off she goes.
A little bit later a black woman comes in and asks;
"How much for the black dildo?"
He, "$35."
She, "How much for the white one?"
He, "$35 for the white one, $35 for the black one."
She, "I think I'll take the white one. I've never had a white one before." She pays him, and off she goes.
About an hour later a young blonde woman comes in and asks, "How much are your dildos?" He, "$35 for the white, $35 for the black."
She, How much is that plaid one on the shelf?"
He, "Well, that's a very special dildo it'll cost you $165."
She thinks for a moment and answers, "I'll take the plaid one, I've never had a plaid one before." She pays him, and off she goes.
Finally, the guy's boss returns and asks, "How did you do while I was gone?" To which the saleman responded, "I did really good, I sold one white dildo, one black dildo, and I sold your thermos for $165!"

Why buy the food? Go to the nearest cafe (not fast food of course) and have a good and healthy food there served to you by a waiter.

Yes, of course. But at least 3 dishes (soup, second course and tea/coffee) of those must be hot. Ok, you Americans live in a warm climate and you prefer an ice tea. No prob with that, but soup and the second course (say pasta with a meat/chicken) must be hot. I doubt a plastic container will keep them warm.

The problem with buying lunch can be, lack of time, cost, and no good local restaurants.

As far as heating lunch brought from home just microwave it.

As a practical health related matter, most people I know would benefit greatly from having lunch consist of fresh fruit, cut up vegetables, a salad and some nuts. One good healthy natural meal each day will also be the easiest.

What's the connection between eating warm meals and preserving health?

do yourself a favor and try vicchysoise and also gaspacho, both are AMAZING cold soups and easy to prepare.

A straight and direct one. Hot soup once a day is just necessary for our stomachs. As about the second course, so usually it's just tasteless is it's cold. E.g. did you try to eat a cold pasta with a cold rissole or chicken?

You will call me an American hater again, but this is a very specific US problem, because you are a fast food country. Anywhere else in the world, fast food is not dominates that much and there is no problem to find a good cafe with affordable prices and healthy food. I already posted this to another thread here: https://translate.google.com/transla...%2F&edit-text=. It's an example of very affordable restaurant chain with a good healthy food. That's how it looks like in a real life:

Note the prices. You pay 429 rubles (about $7) and get a smorgasbord (eat as much as you can):

http://elki-palki-ufa.ru/wp-content/...er.ru_8841.jpg

Or you can have a so-called business lunch (with hot soup etc) for only 239 rubles ($4)

P.S. Yes the prices in dollars were 2x times higher just a year ago. But now we have an economical crisis, so... :)
