The woman cave needs a little MANS help!

What the heck can I do about those stupid supports? I was just going to try to paint and decorate them, but I hate them.

tell your contractor to get those fucking eyesores out of there by the end of the week and he should have known you wouldn't like those once you saw them.

Barry-xlovecam 03-18-2015 03:28 PM

Those are rafter cross ties. That is structural.
They should be tripled if the are not on every rafter.
That is fine for a shed maybe but in a finished room -- the ceiling may move and crack if it freezes there and you have a snow load on the roof -- I think I recall that you said it did.

It's easy to fix now just cut out a drywall piece at the joints.

{}[]{} <= like this
Side Nail them and use a few truss fasteners to bind them together at the top.

Then wrap them with trim wood or drywall and paint the wrapped beams.

L-Pink 03-18-2015 03:52 PM

Leave them rough wood and hang a sex swing from one of them. No one will ever comment on the beams.

They were already there in the shed. The contractor is my daughters boyfriend who I just paid some money to do the drywall and floor. By profession he is an electrician so this was new to him.

He had no idea what to do with them either.

2MuchMark 03-18-2015 04:35 PM

Why hate them? They're nice and besides, they are probably very important.

Do this: Finish the floor first, then stain those beams to match your floor. If you go for darker wood, consider hanging a couple of iron lamps from them.

420 03-18-2015 04:47 PM

Turn them into light fixtures or recessed lighting boxes.
Fill the space between the wood and ceiling and turn them into something more visually appealing like arches.
Hide them with sheet rock so you have a flat ceiling.

For what purpose?

@mark - they're just a 2 by 4 with some type of plywood to support the ends on each side and has a bunch of staples, that's why I hate them. I don't think my daughters boyfriend can box it in...I dont know. I do have some really cool ideas now IF he can box it in a certain way.

We'll see how it goes after I paint it. I don't want to have the ceiling go flat because then it will be short and feel crammed.

I was originally gonna use this as the "Slut Hut" but I no longer really need it for an office so I don't know what I'm going to do with it.

I wanted to keep the floor light so it could be as bright as it can be since it's a small space.

In a couple weeks after it's painted I'll be taking some photos of the local rescue dogs in there, and you'll get to see it in action. =)

Thanks for advice and ideas.

We could put in a rubber floor, a disco ball and make it our private love shack. Think of the money we could save on hotel bills.

Beams

Are they for support? Don't like them? Do what my girlfriend's sister did. While her husband was out of town, she was totally wasted and took a chain saw to the main beam. They have a huge house and she took out about 10 feet in a critical area.
Finally came to her senses and had her brother fix it before the husband came home from a one week trip.

My GIRLFRIEND'S sister. Their whole family is crazy. Those reality TV shows have nothing on this family

She made such a scene in a restaurant, that I was looking at the door and see if I could crawl that far without being seen. It was a safe bet. She was standing in the middle of the place screaming at the staff, as they accidentally put the to go boxes in with the table trash.

Wonders of bi-polar, xanax and liquor will do for you. I no longer go to their house and made it clear I really don't want her in mine. She came over, decided to clean our kitchen. Saw the electric can opener, figured no one uses them any more and threw out the top piece.

Just an average day

yes its just a shack, but she might think it was attempt to follow her ;)

druid66 03-19-2015 02:17 AM

keep it rough, hang some candles etc.. good stuff imo. i wouldn't cover it.

Milfer 03-19-2015 02:24 AM

paint them with exact same color as of ceiling, that way they won't be visible as much

aka123 03-19-2015 02:51 AM

Cover those with something that resembles leaf gold coating or do the real thing and at least it won't look cheap. :) Overdone might be another issue.

You should probably just say boyfriend/girlfriend or girlfriend/girlfriend - not sure if you're a guy or girl.

Don't get married to that craziness! =)
