Mac pros need your help....

Ok I am the person in the family who always gets the call when there is a computer question or issue...

So long short relative has a Mac but wants a newer shinier one... She has all her shit on there with Adobe CS and all tjhat shit... so when she gets the SHINIER mac can she just do a restore of the old image of her UNSHINY mac?

-Basically what can be done to not lose any programs... I rtold her to back up the install files?

If she is buying her new mac from an apple store, just take her old mac in and have them do it for her...

Yes and it works really well. The only issue is most new Macs come with smaller SSD drives and are often too small for peoples crap, so it's good idea to delete extra files or move them to an external drive first, then you can figure out what size drive to get on your shiny new one.

Migrate

Migrate works perfectly. Only thing you need to do is Migrate doesn't move passwords. Make sure you have a list. Don't need it, but any registration codes, etc. best to have.

Hi Juicy,

It is really easy to do, and you don't have to ask Apple to do it for you. There are a few methods but the best is what ColmikeZ said above: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204350

It's fast and pretty straight forward.

Congrats on your relatives purchase!

how old is her old silver box? is it a ppc model or intel?

ppc softwares do not run on newer intel machines!

just a thought....

Explain that she would be better off with a PC.

I don't think you can convince mac users of this.

When she gets her new shinny one have them do it in the store.

Just had it done with my new mac book air from my old mack-book pro and it moved over everything no problem.
