Could be a sign you have a drinking problem and you are in denial about your weight issue.

Choopa Phil 03-20-2015 10:58 AM

Slowly ramp up your drinking about for a week. Its hard to go from a small amount of water all the way up to 8 glasses. I do about a gallon per day sometimes more on my workout days. Temperature outside also plays a big role in the amount I end up drinking too.

Last year when I lost 20lbs I drank a gallon of water a day. I think it took me about a month. It's amazing how much less you eat when you have enough water in your body.

My daughter carries the gallon jug around with her and drinks a gallon a day.

When I'm not dieting, It's very hard for me to drink it unless I'm doing outdoor activites.

You can infuse with stuff you like? Cucumber, lemon? Or buy those little squirt in things...I can't remember what they are called.

Your SKIN will continue to be fabulous for sure.

hey Phil, is there any research that shows drinking a shit ton of water is actually good for people? excluding people who do extremely dehydrating activitiies of course.

Honestly never really looked into it. I just drink when I'm thirsty and don't feel like its excessive. If I start using the bathroom every 5-10 minutes then i'll cut back a bit. I just read my body for what I'm doing at the time. I think that's what everyone should do in all honesty.

I drink a ton of water. I have a bottle open on my desk, and another in reserve. I try to drink as much as I can, and I've lost thirty pounds in the past year.

Either you want to commit to change and want to do what your body requires to function and maintain itself - or you don't. It is that simple.

I train usually 4 hrs a day or more - Boxing, Muay Thai and running and I drink 2 gallons or more a day. Not because I love water, but because my body needs that much water at my size to function and perform and to recover and repair.

Apart from The low risk of water toxicity, you can flush out water soluble vitamins/salts and some minerals.

There has to be context and proper nutrition and supplementation targeted to work load and goals

By the time you are thirsty, you are already mildy dehydrated

Ross 03-20-2015 11:48 AM

I drink minimum of 5 litres of water every day. In the beginning it was hard to drink so much water but after doing it for 10 years, you will miss not having it. Anytime I go on vacation now I feel crappy when I'm not drinking so much water due to being busy all the time.

I drink about 7 maybe 8 bottles of water a day if I'm only drinking water. That's the 16.7 FL Oz or .5L bottles. Not sure how much that equates to vs a "glass" of water.

Drinking a lot of water will cause you to have a high metabolism so that would explain your weight loss. I've naturally always had a high metabolism, so I didn't notice an difference. I actually have a hard time gaining weight.

My crutch lately has been hitting McD's and getting a sweet tea.. That shit is addicting.

I drink when I am thirsty, unless I am so "occupied" that I have to remind myself to drink, eat, etc.

8 glasses of water; hmm.. lets see; I drink somewhat dehydrating coffee 3 cups and about a cup of water to equal those cups. That is 6 cups already. Plus the water drinking I can't count. All water intake counts by the way.

But certain Mericans drink way too much water as it is trendy to drink much water. That is one of the "Only in Merica" things those get on headlines around here. If you drink gallon a day, it is too much unless you live in some really hot place and under heavy exercise, or something like that.

SekobA 03-20-2015 12:45 PM

I never counted my many cups of tea a day as water intake! No wonder I'm never thirsty for it unless I'm not in drinking tea.

The reason I drank the water last year to lose weight is because a guy friend of mine swore by it, he lost 70lbs drinking a gallon a day, and running. For me it worked for what I wanted.

How about 8 glasses of jack and water?

I think the old rule is 8 cups (as in an 8 oz measuring cup) per day. That's equal to half a gallon.

Yes, drinking much water helps to ease the hunger. That is why many people with some sort of eating disorder gets also these water poisonings. So yes, it works for diet purposes, but is not recommended due being a tad dangerous.

Do you guys remember the woman who did a competition on the radio show on who could drink more water? She died a few hours later if I recall correctly. BUT it was a very short amount of time (I think an hour) to drink a LOT of water.

She was doing it to get an xbox for her kids. It may have been local to my area.

I agree that some old people don't see a difference between wii and xbox. You were mostly correct though. It was a contest to see who could drink the most water (without peeing).

I've been trying to drink a lot more water to lose some weight. One thing I found is mio makes it taste a lot better and it says it adds zero calories.. Drinking a bottle of water now.

Personally I think water IS important. I was tempted to change how much water I drink each day when I have read recent researches that say "Over-doze of water is bad for your kidneys..", "1 liter of water a day is plenty..", etc.

1. Human body
The amount of water in the human body ranges from 50-75%. So ignoring loss of water (perspiration and other bodily waste) is ignoring essence of yourself. You don't need to be spiritual person to acknowledge this fact.

2. People vs mammals
We discussed this with my gf. We compared ourselves to animals. Most mammals will drink enormous amount of water even if they have water in territory. People don't do that. We very rarely consume large amounts of pure water. Actually we "forgot" to drink cause it's available any time. I think we suppressed even the subconsciousness survival instinct of thirst.

3. Water vs other liquids
Oh I drink coke. I drink beer. People say often. Sorry, get the facts about nutrition. If you have too much sugar in your blood, kidney will start to produce more urine to eliminate it. Similarly with alcohol. Coffee and tea dehydrates you as well. Then there are mineral waters. They can be a very good supplement of minerals, but if you drink mineral water too often your kidneys will not like it.

4. Hydration and sports
Anyone who does sports knows importance of this. I heard some sportsmen drink enormous amounts even outside the main season.

Interesting finds about hydratation:
  • Many people are most de-hydrated in the morning. A glass of clean, non-sparkling water helps to recover the losses and can kick-start the metabolism. Tested, works.
  • If you drink large amounts of tea or coffee, like I do (5 cups pf green tea daily), you should balance the amount with water.
  • Timer set for 15-30 minutes is a good reminder for few gulps of water

I don't always follow above, but I try my best. In average I drink 0.35 galon (1.3 l) of water, plus some green tea, plus soup, a glass of veggie or fruit fresh and a beer a day. On days I do sports (swimming, basketball, cycling) I add another 1.3 l on top.

Please don't say this too ascetic, I have my days too ... :upsidedow 3-4 Mai-Tai cocktails + some beers = surely you loose too much water. But they feel soooo gooood! :)

Mayo clinic Water: How much should you drink every day? - Mayo Clinic

So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3 liters) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day.

Humans are mammals. Come on..

And mammals don't drink enormous amounts of water nilly willy, only what they need (excluding certain Homo sapiens specimens); and especially many herbivorous species gets most or all of their water from the plants they eat.

Around here the recommendation to fulfill average water need is 1-2 litres per day, totally.
