The first website that I made was before Google too, I did not have it on my own domain. Altavista was the most popular browser then, I think. Google has been strong #1 for quite some time. They know what they are doing, I would say... Everybody's just used to Google on the top of it all, it does not have to be this way.

I can't see when I officially registered my (non adult) .au domain - whois doesn't show that information :( - but it would have been in about 1996 or 1997.

At the time, the corresponding .com was available, but I never bothered to register it. It's a dictionary word, so it would probably be worth some nice coin now. :(
