10 world's happiest countries, no US there...

Is that a coincident that the happiest are the countries with the highest taxes and government health care?

10 world's happiest countries

BlackCrayon 03-23-2015 08:48 AM

no because people don't have to work hard to get anywhere in those countries. everything is handed to them if they want it.

dyna mo 03-23-2015 08:51 AM

it's a myth and childish pipedream to think all 7+ billion people on the planet are supposed to be happy 24/7/365.

reality.

I don't think that this is the baseline for happiness. And surely wasn't the subject of that study.

J. Falcon 03-23-2015 09:13 AM

Doesn't Denmark have one of the highest suicide rates?

you get what i am saying though.

the study was based on division of people by government and boundaries with the assumption we are all supposed to score high on a judgemental happiness test scale and also compared to others in a very general way.

fundamentally flawed study. i don't disagree with them doing the research, research leads to better research but let's not think this study gets much of anything right.

It did rank my country well. :)

Of course CyberDUDE comes soon to remind that we have high drinking and suicides. Although much lower than in his beloved motherland.

Nah, number 41. But Greenland is number one, that's Danish territory. Maybe that's how people get confused.

Rochard 03-23-2015 09:59 AM

Exactly, this country (U.S.A.) has been very good to me and I've traveled the world.

Same here, and being a citizen of this country I've been given automatic access to travel many countries in the world :) Same for Europeans right?

Yup, never had any trouble entering any country. Though right now, I'd stay the fuck out of Russia - they also just threatened to nuke us :1orglaugh

Harmon 03-23-2015 10:34 AM

The USA takes damn near 50% of my income, year in and year out... yet I still keep paying. Why? Because I CAN. Enjoy your free healthcare. Enjoy whatever it is that makes you happy. Molson Golden, Weed (we're getting that), Horse fucking, whatever.

All of the USA haters still end up here, looking for US money (or offshore US money). The majority of your income, and I don't give a fuck what church you go to, comes from the USA. Your cunt tube owners may be somewhere else, but they seek the all mighty American dollar first and foremost.

I am happy knowing that I have several battle ships, FUCKIN NUKES, a fleet of jets and a commander in chief that is not scared to get down and dirty in order to protect my right to post on a porn board, allow me to buy my own guns to protect myself. Seriously. Think about it. You do NOT want any of THIS.

I am actually, mentally saying the pledge allegiance to myself as I type this.

It is always interesting to compare our team members and their general demeanors based on their locations and various countries (Prague, UK, US) US not being their does not surprise me tho

Have you tried living anywhere else for a substantial period of time? I think that is a pretty big blanket statement to make. I've lived in 3 different countries for a substantial period of time and wouldn't say "I couldn't be happier" because I know most likely I could be if I lived somewhere else.

I am however very happy living in Canada right now, especially with summer coming but I know for a fact there are other places out there I'd enjoy myself more and have less things to worry about.

I think a lot of it has to do with environment more than the Country. I have visited lots of places around the world. I think I could live in any of them and be happy if I had the people close in my life with me. Having a circle of friends and family who I love and all love me back is what makes me happy.

Well, there are LOTS of countries that are taxed less, but also your income would be much less, so it is not just a bout tax rate, but about bottom line what you have left after the taxes and your purchasing power with that.

mineistaken 03-25-2015 08:33 AM

Of course, that being said, you can not be happy when you have a progressive income taxation - jealousy tax where the harder you work the more you are being punished by higher percentage tax bracket.

Buff 03-25-2015 09:00 AM

What percentage do blacks make up of the population in those countries?

Comparatively measuring happiness is a crock of shit.
Of course the United Nations has some "expertise" in delivering crocks of shit ...

+1

Useful information from the UN is like useful information from a politician. Unlikely to be found. The pictures are cool though.

I've been in Copenhagen (Denmark) and I didn't like the city much but it's the city where cars are very rare and main transport vehicle is bicycle. Everyone has at least one (and many have more than one bicycle). Riding bike everywhere you go would make you feel good. Most of the Danish people are really good and healthy looking and bicycles sure help to keep you fit. Also that's the country where weed is almost legal and it's the country where every 2nd person takes "medications". If you mix all these factors with free public healthcare and free education - you'll get one happy country.

The Porn Nerd 03-25-2015 12:24 PM

People in Holland are not so happy these days. I kept hearing this phrase over and over:

"Holland is no longer a country. It is now a Corporation."

Taxes and limited work hours and incentives are killing the Dutch spirit.

izombie 03-25-2015 12:30 PM

Most of the countries on that list get very cold during the winter, that would not make me happy.

SekobA 03-25-2015 01:16 PM

Dont agree i live is small country with friendly ppl and not very expensive products

I have lived in another country - Canada, in fact, outside of Montreal. And come to think of it, I couldn't have been less happy in Canada. The country itself was nice, but I was a teenager, it was cold there, and I had moved away from all of my friends.

For me, I am happy because I am an optimistic person in general. Give me a roof over my head, a decent car, a bike, and a basketball and I'm as happy as a camel on humpday. I don't need much.

dyna mo 03-25-2015 04:12 PM

so the plan is to send all the miserable Americans to Denmark, where they'll instantly be happy.

it's a win win!

And that's a really good attitude to have..... I wish more people were like this instead of constantly complaining about the things they don't have. Life is for living.

Of course, contentment is such an important thing for life.

....that said a lot of people are content with what they know about rather than reaching out to find out whats out there. I know just too many people who've hardly spent a month outside their home country in their entire lifetime.

I know people who think staying in a $300 room in Vegas or Dubai for one night makes them a baller and their little penis grow. They also take tourist double decker bus with free earphones for a day and say "I was there".

its not 50%...show me how you came up with that figure and I will show you how it is not...and the healthcare is not free in other countries but it is so cheap it may as well be...I do not have health insurance because I could never accumulate 50$/month worth of expenses LOL

Or someone showing up in the airport of a country, not ever leaving the airport and saying "I visited that country".

Having said that, you can have a person who has *actually* travelled globally but doesn't have the intelligence, education and understanding to interpret or make something of what they're seeing or even be enriched by the experience....

CDSmith 03-26-2015 07:38 AM

I suppose it's all about WHERE in Canada one lives. I'm pretty happy where I am, basically speaking. Lower cost of living than most of the rest of the country, a bit long in the winters but I really don't mind winter having growing up playing hockey, walking snowbanks and building snow forts. Plus I'm never one to let weather dictate my mood.

But in contrast all of my relatives from Toronto, and in fact nearly every person I've ever met from Toronto, are very high strung, almost all suffer from allergies, they are a bundle of nerves. Most do not or did not strike me as 'happy'. Met dozens to Torontonians down in Mexico years ago, did not get a friendly vibe from any of them. Is it smog inhilation or something in the water? The sky-high cost of living? Couldn't say.

Yet one or two here on this board have said TO is a terrific place to live. Go figure.

And yes, I have been all over the world. Just got back from 10 day trip driving around historical knights of templar sites in Spain and Portugal. Sure beats snapping selfies with someone else's Lamborghini, boy. :1orglaugh
