I know it's never "cool" for someone that has shot fuck films to be moralistic. But just the same I tend to have that streak. So when I read stuff like there's more cell phones in a country than there is toilets and dumping dead bodies, etc. I get really ticked off with nerds that claim some sort of superior "progress" and then point to shit like cell phones, the search for life on other planets, electric cars, etc. as proof.

The ancient Romans had toilets so there's no excuse for this situation.

What the hell is wrong with that country? It's been civilized for thousands of years, how do they manage to fail so badly that they don't have indoor plumbing for 600 million people? It's Buddhism, you don't see many Buddhists with much ambition, a religion that glorifies poverty and promises reincarnation so it's no wonder those people have no urgency to better their lot in this life. All the human qualities that lead to progress are discounted and denigrated as in Buddhism.

Buddhism only works when you're from a wealthy Western upbringing, then it's easy to play at being spiritual knowing when you're tired of shitting yourself you can always run back to the real world and mommy and daddy to support you, like the Beatles would do.

But the issue is well known. Especially because of "decency" women often go to poop/ piss only after dark (not only in India). You know, you have to hold all the day and go to poop/ piss in the dark. If it is not obvious, it inceases risk to getting raped, and many women indeed get raped while they go to take a poop.

But seriously; the age for water flushing toilets, especially in poorer countries starts to be over. Though you didn't talk anything about water; I just wanted to show my smart ass skills. But the actual point was that installing and maintaining dry toilets is much easier, cheaper, and more environment friendly; thus it is easier to install that toilet at the end of the street.

If you never went there, all you know is what you see in the media - the filth of Mumbai/Delhi slums where most of indians live ie the 95% and many of these places are truly filthy. They should not be as India is one of the largest economies in the world and likely to be the fastest growing this year, but the government is TOTALLY corrupt.

But there are 1000's pretty places in India which everyone forgets like the mountainous regions Macleod Ganj (where the Dalai Lama lives), Shimla, Rishikesh (made famous by the Beatles), Darjeeling, Goa and the green cities like Bangalore and Kerala.

Or Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur where the oriental indian tribes live. The list goes on and its a long, long list but how many of you have even heard of these places?
