Tories use Porn fear to whip up support

Pornography websites must adopt age-restriction controls or face closure, the Conservatives say.

The plan is targeted at both UK-based and overseas websites and would be introduced if the Tories are in power after the general election.

Experts have welcomed the idea but warned it would be difficult to implement.

The proposed system would be overseen by an independent regulator with the power to force internet service providers to block sites which failed to include effective age verification.

Hey, it's election time. Why don't we pander to the religious right wing - you know, those people who scream at gay people whilst holding up the Bible as some moral code - despite the genocide, infantacide, incest, murder, rape, .... I shall not ask how many of you would still be alive if we stoned adulterers or brides who were not virgins.

As an IT profession with over 25 years experience, this will be much, much more difficult than trying to build a working system for Universal Benefits - it is a staggering amount of work, prone to very complex decision-making, there will be appeals, court cases --- we'll all end up paying millions for it, and it is nothing more than throwing a bone to the religious right - who have no right to even participate in politics until they learn how to behave like human beings.

No government can close a website outside of it's federal territory juristiction that is hosting legal content its host country (server domicile).

The UK government can make their ISPs block the domains DNS only in that case. All a user would have to do is use a VPN or proxy that is not blocked
