Whichever one has money for nothing because it sounds incredible on the stereo!

Plutocracy 04-05-2015 09:36 AM

MaDalton 04-05-2015 09:36 AM

Brothers in Arms - obviously

DraX 04-05-2015 09:52 AM

I think we have a winner:

Amazon.com: DIRE STRAITS: Sultans of Swing - Very Best of: Music

I gotta admit, I feel dire straits is one of the best bands ever and I have yet any albums by them at home :Oh crap

Good car music too.

bns666 04-05-2015 09:57 AM

download whole discography, listen to all albums and decide yourself :thumbsup

A thread with closure.

And OP answers his own question with 23 mins.

Warm fuzzy feeling.

Hard to argue with Brothers in arms however my personal favourite is Making movies. It may be lacking the arena or radio power. However. lesser known songs such as Skateaway or Solid rock have all the essential Dire Straits ingredients, mellower, yet also no less than perfectly crafted.

Private Investigations - The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: Amazon.co.uk: Music

Ahh dont be like that.

You take the time and post in every "worthless thread" or just mine?

Buh uh, now you hurt my feelings.

The Porn Nerd 04-05-2015 10:19 AM

Dire Straits
Communiqué
Making Movies
Love Over Gold
Brothers In Arms

Get those first 5 albums and you are set.

Actually...I clicked your "worthless" thread and was going to offer an album suggestion - till I saw you'd answered your own question.

Hurt feelings? :1orglaugh

Here...have a Tic-Tac.

CaptainHowdy 04-05-2015 06:56 PM

None ...

Rochard 04-05-2015 07:13 PM

Love Over Gold is one of my favorites....

LeRoy 04-05-2015 08:22 PM

Oh you still around in my worthless thread :thumbsup

If I wanted a tic-tac, I'd go buy it myself don't need handouts from a punk like you.

Further more: Maybe it would all been better if you'd offered your album suggestion and stopping at that.

This is a discussion forum and I was looking for suggestions and I still do.

You're the only one in this thread who failed and that says alot about you.

Oh and dire straits kicks ass! Thanks!

I'm a huge Dire Straits fan and I wholeheartedly agree with this :thumbsup Still, you'll find stuff you really like on every album.

That said, their "best" album imo is either their first, "Dire Straits" or "Love Over Gold" which includes the incredible "Telegraph Road". My current favorite is "Communique", though that's because it has a number of songs that hold a lot of personal meaning to me right now.

If you really want a mind-blowing DS experience, Alchemy Live is the ticket. Knopfler & crew's musical virtuosity on full display. Along those lines, with any song you like, google "Dire Straits {song name} live" - you'll find multiple excellent variations of the song. DS was one of those bands whose songs took on a whole new dimension live.

I'm so psyched Knopfler's touring this year. Gonna see him 9/18 at the Berkeley Greek Theatre :thumbsup:thumbsup

A DS greatest hits album is fine, but there are so many great tracks that were never released as singles. As someone else suggested, download their first five albums. You'll find so many gems that you'll be really glad you did.

Sorry, not obviously. There were some strong tracks of course, but they kinda went "pop" here. "Walk of Life" is the lowest quality DS hit they ever released.

Interesting thing from BIA: back in the day, I was dating a girl whose previous boyfriend wrote "So Far Away" for her and subsequently sold it to DS. #realLifeStrangerThanFiction

That said, here's my favorite version of So Far Away, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDImgS1_YN4 if the embedded version doesn't work

Spunky 04-05-2015 10:16 PM

Brothers in arms was my choice

dready 04-07-2015 10:31 AM

I prefer Dire Straits - Dire Straits myself.

michael.kickass 04-07-2015 01:03 PM

Brothers in Arms. :2 cents:
