Hey tough guy! Can you score 50 points on the Army push up test?

100 points is the max score.
Find your age group and tell me if you can score 50 points, which is failing.

Admit it; you read this thread because I said "tough guy".

editeur 04-05-2015 01:20 PM

Can get about 90 points in my group
60-65 pushups it's not that hard for a man, unless your belly is bigger than your foot size.
Used to be able to do this on fists, now on open hands only.

aka123 04-05-2015 01:22 PM

It didn't go that well, I only got 38 push-ups. And there went my "taking easy" recovery from being sick.

When we did push-up test in army, there was time limit, which wasn't that much. I tried to emulate that.

I would do one more than necessary to pass then get up, even if I had time left.

When I was a young buck in boot camp I always maxed out on the PT tests. I was a track runner in high school so the runs were easy for me, and the push ups and pull ups were easy too.

Last time I tried to do a pull up I utterly failed.

My diet has taken me below 220, and this week I plan on starting with small weights. Give me a year or two and I can do 100%.

Watch me.

push ups and squats are something everybody should do on daily basis - especially if you are working from home office.

to make push ups more effective i do elevated push ups with my feet on chair and use push up bars so the move is deeper, usually 20-30 reps per set and several sets daily.

bns666 04-05-2015 02:11 PM

oh and this thread is useless without pics of hot chicks doing push ups :thumbsup

When I was in the Army from 89-97, the maxes for 18-21 males were:

pushups in 2 mins: 82. My best: 110.
situps in 2 mins: 92. My best: 127.
2 mile run: 11:54. My best: 12:36.

They have since lowered the run standard for max to something like 13 min.

Based on those scores and if 50points is the norm I would say that table is based on 60seconds. So if you are 27-31 you should do 30 pushups in a minute in order to qualify for 50 points.

If that was not based on 60 seconds than almost any healthy man would do his 50 points...

You need at least 60 points in each event to pass.

oh, hah, i thought it was 1 set instead of 60 seconds.

mineistaken 04-05-2015 04:55 PM

After doing more research it looks like time limit is 2 minutes (not sure why isn't it even mentioned there) and minimum is 60.

When I was in the Military for basic training all of the guys would bitch that the girls had it easier. I would ask them to judge me as a "guy" in the PT tests and would kick most of the guys asses. They learned to respect me.

Well since you did male results in PT you just proved their point, girls with super low requirements had it easy. Of course you must have been training for years to do better than most men. Very rare exception.

I was 19 years old and did dance and skating everyday before getting into the Army. I was in killer shape and worked out super hard everyday. I just always felt like I was being judged as a girl and wanted to prove everyone wrong on an equal playing field. It made me who I am today.

I believe the time limit was 2 minutes for Pushups and situps.

Basic was a score of 50 on each 3 to PASS, and after leaving schooling you had to get a mim score of 60 points in each area to pass...

Give it a Try, oh Film it, let's see how many you can do in 2 minutes?

I will try to confirm the time limit....

When I was in ranger school I hit 160+ pu and 130+ sit ups in 2 minutes and could PT for hours... did the 2 mile in the +/- 10min range. Not having pt'ed in 25 years I believe I could hit the 100 for my age at the standard army pt chart. Like anything else physical technique is everything.

thats not making them more effective that is just changing the muscle group being worked. doing multiple forms of them is ideal if you are going to do them often.

Like I said, doing a pushup and doing one correctly are two different things.

Everybody thinks they can bang them out until your platoon sgt is standing over you counting, and he's going one... two... two... three... four... four... four... four... five... six... six...

Now you've done eleven and got credit for six because your back sagged a little or he thinks you didnt go down far enough. Yes, that's how it happens in the real Army. It's not the pussy webmaster Army.

In fact... I bookmarked it this morning. It's good to have goals.

Last year my goal was to loose weight. I walked into Phoenix Forum thirty pounds lighter so I am thrilled to death. My goal for the next year is to loose thirty more pounds, which will put me at a good weight, and now I could try to meet the minimum PT standards for the US Army. I was planning on doing something something and even bought weights for it, so this fits right into my plans.

I have a neat idea... Why don't you bookmark this thread, and bring it up next April and we'll see where I stand.

That's pretty good, but honestly, is that used as a standard or sent by some high office and ignored?

Nicky 04-07-2015 09:05 AM

Push-up's are no problem, sit-up's are decent the running part I'd fail though :P

QFT and realized this 'too late'.. I was always a starvin'marvin but parentship made me grow a belly and go up from ~125 lbs to ~175 lbs. I admit that until approx two years ago I was unable to make a few proper pushups.. For most of my life.. :( Getting big and closing to 35 made me decide to change my diet, my [eating] habits, and made me move. In one year I went back to ~150 lbs and staying there for another year. Trying hard to make a daily habit out of some exercises but it's tough :pimp [..for a pothead..] Anyway, even with little-to-medium daily training you can be very fit [on a long run] and it totally makes sense. I never felt 'fit' and it's just Fucking Right to feel so! I feel stronger, can fuck longer [and better] . Still I am shit with 20-25 pushups at once maximum, and my habit is to repeat 3 times at once. A year ago I was doing 3times 10, 6m ago 3times 17, slowly it builds up even if there are days I am missing. I am fucking happy that I realized and acted in time and entered age 35 already walking the Right Path. :pimp :)
