I think I agree with you.
When Apple announced they were working on their smart watch, I decided to take a look around at what was currently out there. I got the Android Gear 2. Of course, this was over a year ago.

I wore it on my trip to Europe to England and then on to Prague. My trip was two weeks long. The battery life was great and it could go a week without a charge. My stay had four different hotel rooms involved, and with the different changes of time zones... It was nice waking up in the middle of the night and clicking the button to see what time it was, and having multiple time zones on the main screen was neat.
However, at the end of the day.... It's nothing more than an extension of your cell phone. You can answer calls on it, play music, check messages, send messages, and a few other things. The trend with cell phones is "bigger is better" because it's impossible to type out anything on a small freaking screen.
While there might all be wearing smart watches in the future, and there might even be a rush at the Church of Apple to get one.... After the initial excitement this will be nothing more than a gadget. If you want to try to tap out text messages on a small screen when your phone is within your arms reach, well, eventually you just feel like an idiot.
Currently I wear my watch to sleep at night. It tells me how well I slept (which isn't difficult to figure out - I either wake up rested or not), and in the event I wake up at night I can quickly check what time it is without having to fumble for my phone. When idiots send me text messages in the middle of the night I can read them and even respond. The best part is.... When my alarm on my cell phone goes off, I can turn it off from my watch without fumbling for the phone.
My god that's a lot of text about watches.
