PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A woman accused of dumping her quadriplegic son in the woods so she could spend the week with her out-of-state boyfriend remained hospitalized Monday for a third day in Maryland while Philadelphia police awaited her release to arrest her.

Nyia Parler has been hospitalized for undisclosed reasons since late Friday, just hours after her 21-year-old son was found in a pile of wet leaves, next to his wheelchair and a Bible, authorities said.

Police believe he had been there all week — exposed to the cold, rainy weather and to wild animals.

The son remained in stable condition Monday at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia after being treated for dehydration, malnutrition and abrasions, Philadelphia police Lt. John Walker said. The son, whose name has not been released, has cerebral palsy.

That's heartbreaking, but thankfully she recognizes that she is not a good mother. Foster care has its issues, but it's better than a hurt/dead little kid.

I don't know if that's true or not. I think some kids in foster care probably wish they were dead rather than be there.

My nephew was born with spina bifida and immediately had surgery. He was so cute and pudgy and peaceful. Looking into his eyes you could tell right away he was such an old soul.

At 5 months old, my sister discovered he was incredibly emaciated after the hospital called and said no supplies had been ordered, doctors appointments missed.

He was only 11lbs when he was admitted to critical care. Custody was turned over to my sister and he has grown like a weed ever since. He did not talk until he was 4 years old and then suddenly just said everything as if he was really listening all along. He is ALWAYS smiling.

What do you think happened to my niece and her boyfriend? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Child protective services even left my niece in their care for another SIX MONTHS before taking her away.

They still walk around, doing drugs, neglecting life.

My story doesn't - my first comment did. I could introduce you to a few of those people who would have rather been dead than go through what they did. I don't know if they are the minority or majority.

My story was relating why things like this especially hurt me with the disabled man. They're all very very special, and ugh, just awful to hurt anyone, but people who already have it rough? To take it even further? Booo.

foster care has its share of dead kids. too many people view them as a paycheck instead of a person. i hate people who are such pieces of shit they can't take care of their kids and the other pieces of shit that take advantage of the foster system to abuse kids.

If you know people that would rather be dead than alive, their issue is not foster care.
