hosting question

if a hosting company takes you down, and you open a new account somewhere, do they have to give you all your content back? I had 100's of pages == hate to start over

You are the owner of the content.
They must give you your data.
But if they close your account for no payment, they can hold your cotent.
May be you can read the hosting contract to see what are the conditions to retreive your datas.

That's absolutely not true. You should have local copies of your content. The hosting company doesn't owe you anything.

Exactly. If it's worth saving then it's worth backing up!

no they dont they might have deleted your account already

Check archive.org
You might at least be able to retrieve the pages. You will still have to recreate all of the original directories and upload any images/files that each page is calling for...but it's a lot better than starting from scratch.

Why do you think the hosting company still holds your content? If they do, most will probably give you a zip file

It happened to me too , they should have backups on a separate server . I always check if the hosting company do backup DAILY . And to prevent shit I backup all my website weekly on auto with a plugin I ve bought.
