How well do you sleep?

I once read there are 2 kinds of people in the world, those who sleep well and those who don't. By well I mean, easily; you fall asleep quickly, sleep soundly, straight through the night. By not well, you have a hard time falling asleep, sometimes you toss and turn, you can't sleep non stop for more than a couple of hours, you go to the bathroom a lot.

Myself, I fall into the second category. Some nights I fall asleep quickly and sleep like a king, other nights my mind is like a motor which won't shut down, making it hard to sleep.

mineistaken 04-19-2015 09:08 AM

I fall into the first category, never have to get up during the process, well maybe 1 in 10 nights I wake up one time due to some noise, but fall asleep again quickly.
Although - sometimes I can not fall asleep quickly initially, bit that probably means that I am not tired/ready for sleep.

I fall asleep well when I do sleep because I am usually up about 36 hours straight binging on coke.

Also having hot whores sucking your cock in Lambos and draining your seed every 30 minutes helps one to sleep.

Just kidding, none of that shit applies to me. I sleep well some nights, horrible others. I suggest fucking before bed, or reading a book (phone, tablet,). I also suggest reading Black Donkey and/or Black Soda's posts. They usually put me to sleep. :2 cents:

Works for me.

If you are going to read in bed then us a traditional book. The light from the electronic e readers, tablets, phones will only make it more difficult to sleep.

Boost melatonin production at night

Don?t read from a backlit device at night (such as an iPad). If you use a portable electronic device to read, use an eReader that is not backlit, i.e. one that requires an additional light source such as a bedside lamp.

Good advice.

I do read an analog book when having issues with sleeping, I just thought that I would add that in for the younger folks of the board that may not understand what it's like to read an actual paperback.

I am not sure I buy all that it has to say, either way? I prefer turning pages. It kind of adds to the whole reading experience if you know what I'm saying. :2 cents:

I'm going to get this when it comes out: Luna

Monitors your sleeping patterns, wakes you up at proper times. Pretty cool. I like the heating function.

Applies to computer too. It is also easier for your eyes if you adjust the light of the screen to match the surroundings. It takes some practice to remember to do so, but I have slowly got grasp to it. I use three preset settings in my Samsung monitor: game (for day), internet (for clowdy day/ afternoon) and text (for night).

Thanks, but does that really work? For examply that hardly knows when it is cloudy day. :)

We are also starting to have that "nightless night" thing this time of year. Hopefully that software can adapt with that. I will check it out, thanks.

And yes; I do it manually right now.

I used to have a lot of difficulty falling asleep, mind racing, noises distracting me, etc. until I learned a weird mind trick: I try to dream. It's like visualization, except instead of trying to paint a clear picture with things making sense or a plot or conclusions of some kind, you do the opposite. Think of random nonsense on purpose and don't allow yourself to focus on one thing long enough to think about its meaning.

You might start off with something palpable, like a chimp on a tricycle, but then one of the wheel spokes is a sword. It's held by a musketeer with a red plume in his hat. The plume is then on a weird bird you don't recognize, like a muppet or something. Keep going and within minutes the dream gets more abstract. Don't let any of the thoughts associate to anything that's actually going on in the world or your life.

It didn't take much practice before I was able to fall dead asleep within 10 or 15 minutes. Give it a try.

I sleep nice over all. Maybe wake up once a night to go pee .
I sleep terrible after drinking :)

michael.kickass 04-20-2015 07:19 AM

I fall in the 2nd, no doubt.

MakeMeGrrrrowl 04-20-2015 07:23 AM

I think it's a requirement to have sleep issues if you work at home. I spent so many nights working overnight (as most of you probably have) and sleeping during the day switching schedules was near impossible.

Now I do sleep at night, and wake up early, but I need assistance to sleep. I much prefer sleeping at night and being awake during the day.

bronco67 04-20-2015 07:57 AM

I'm lights out seconds after my head hits the pillow. I'm a nut about making sure all light is blocked in my bedroom. That includes the tiniest LED light on the AC, and I cover my alarm clock with a black shirt, because it's impossible to find one that doesn't have a digital display as bright as the sun.

Actually, I have a rant for the makers of bedroom electronics. Stop putting LED lights all over everything...or at least have a fucking dimmer switch. Someone got me a nice baby monitor when my daughter was born, but I had to add black tape to the front of it because there's a gyrating LED light on the front that looks like one of the UFO's from Close Encounters. And she has a white noise machine that has nice big blue light on the power button which illuminates the entire room unless I cover it. Blue light is supposed to be disturbing to the human sleep cycle, and I wonder why these companies don't look into the science of sleep before making their products.

Anyway, if you want some help sleeping I'd highly recommend trying ZMA (Zinc Magnesium Asparate). It helps you get some nice heavy sleep, and the dreams are pretty freaky too.

I am with yo on dimming the lights! My alarm clock does have a dim light, and that's the one thing that doesn't bother me. I cover my DVR, my phone, my keyboard, and anything else that shines even a little light.

Where do yo get the ZMA? From GNC, health food store or like walgreens or something?

Vitamin Shoppe or any health store. It's cheap too...about 12 bucks a bottle and that lasts about a month.

I sleep great. I am very active and by the time I go to bed I am exhausted - and I go to bed early too.

There's one thing you I always count on....doing heavy deadlifts in the afternoon will make me start to conk out in the early evening.

I've had sleeping issues, especially in recent years. If I stay on top of things, eating schedule, active days, meds, etc, I generally get a decent sleep. But every so often the insomnia hits and my sleep schedule is out of whack for a week or more.

What's helped? -- Believe it or not, my coffee pot. I've been setting it up the night before and it's set to come on at 8:00 am every morning. A few minutes after 8 the smell of fresh-brewed coffee comes wafting in my room, and usually wakes me.

I changed out my matress and bought all new bedding over the past 6 months. New pillows, a memory foam overlay, 1000 to 1200 thread count sheets, new matress pad, the works. Cost a bundle but it's helped some for sure.

Taking my prescribed meds after 9 pm. At least the ones that make you drowsy. By 11 or midnight I'm usually tired enough to fall asleep... usually. Not always. (insomnia)

Eating nothing after 9 pm at the latest. I drink a cup of decaf green tea, take a huge mug of water to bed, but that's it. I drink the tea, and first thing in the morning drink the water.

Whomever said that stuff about working from home got it exactly right. It can play havoc with your sleep. I've also been snoring lately and having some daytime tiredness, which may be early signs of sleep apnea, which I'm being tested for at some point in the coming weeks.

TrashyGirl 04-20-2015 11:07 AM

I can usually fall sleep, but can't stay asleep. My remedies:

1. Multiple orgasms

2. Neuro Sleep drink (sometimes I'll supplement with additional melatonin)

Not sure how being awakened by the smell of coffee helps a person sleep better the previous 8 hours.
