What do yo tell potential "partners" you do for work when you first meet?
 

For you single guys and girls, what do you tell people (or potential) you are dating that you do for a living?

It comes up in conversation pretty commonly and quickly. Do you pad the truth a little bit? Do you just generalize, like, I work in the adult industry and leave it at that?

Say it's porn but on the backend parts, like websites, billing and such, not the actual production

When I was single I always just told the truth. If someone is going to get offended, it's better to know right away so you don't waste each other's time.

I say sales and marketing. When we start discussing further details about work I tell them pretty openly what kind of products we sell and then pre-answer the obvious next question:

"Have you been in the movies yourself?"

Usually, it's met with surprise and/or "that's cool". Very rarely has someone taken offense to it.

Tell someone you do "Internet marketing" and they assume porn anyway.

I tell them I'm unemployed so they don't think I'm a perv.

I work in dating so that's easy.

i don't consider making sites as "working in porn". i always just said i make websites. these days adult websites is such a small part of what i do its not even worth mentioning.

Pretty much what others have said but I try and judge the girl before opening up too much anyway. Computers and Internet is enough to get started and if they ask more I usually say 'marketing'. If I judge they are cool (and might get turned on by what I do) then I mention porn. If not, I start spewing some techno geek speak and their eyes glaze over in 20 seconds. LOL

The bigger problem than selling porn is having my own work schedule. Most people with j-o-b-s can't seem to grasp the concept of being in control of your own time, destiny, etc, so they just assume I make no money and am a bum. Just because I don't have an office job like their fantasy of the perfect man. LOL

Also: much less of an issue with Europeans than uptight, sexually-confused Americans.

People get crazy curious if you say "yeah, I do porn"

This is true for me. Truthfully, I think my family and friends are jealous that I have control of my time. They don't perceive that what I do is real work.

I always say *honesty is the best policy* (yeah a cliche) when meeting someone new. But I am clear that what I do is a business, a business that I run myself, pay taxes on, do well in and take seriously. Any woman, no matter what you do in adult, you run the risk of being perceived negatively. Finding someone who doesn't judge you for what you do and for the industry you work in, is a challenge. There are men out there who are ok with it and if they aren't ok with it when you tell them, up front, then they aren't someone who you should spend one more minute with.

I tell them I'm on strike since 2010. Some leave immediatelly though.

Internet marketing is the winner.
I used to say internet porn but girls would allways be looking for cameras in my house...
My current girlfriend allready knew from somebody else what I do for a living.
That is why she got interested in me. She was so diseapointed to find out I am actually not a real big perv.

Really in 2015 if someone can not deal with the fact that porn exists then forget them.

Own websites, make money from ads. Saying "affiliate marketing" is too complicated for people who do not webmaster. And of course there is no need to specify that those are adult websites.

Strange. I would have guessed 9 out of 10 would not even think porn.

to family and neighbors I do internet marketing.. My parents and sister know what I do for a living but I see no reason to tell ALL my family.

My husband was also sad to find this out about me. I can talk the talk....

I don't know how to make it go another way yet, be happy I chose just one day, I had someone blitz me twice yesterday and I lost because they cheated with that blitz. I don't even know what it is!. I am still learning this system.

I haven't ever dated anyone really since I owned my business other than my husband. I have no idea how I'll handle it. I'm only a good liar when I am making $2.00 a minute.

I do in general say marketing or photographer, but these discussions are not in depth with someone I'm really trying to get to know. With parents of my kids friends, school people etc.

Internet marketing isn't very good answer, as it is so "round" that it will surely raise further questions.

No one has ever asked. If they did though, I would simply say, whatever the customer is asking me to promote and try to change subject.

I imagine it would be harder for a guy to tell a girl that he works in adult than the other way around. I'm pretty sure guys will be more accepting of it. But apparently girls are too.

I answered "internet marketing" a few time and i had ALWAYS further questions (excepted when they think i want to sell them something)
I fact i realized that (here) people don't ask more than 3 questions then they feel indiscreet, so the less you tell at the first place and the better it is...
If they ask more questions, they are probably trying to harass you with questions if they don't have a good reason to ask them and those are anyway assholes...

back in my younger days my friends used to like telling girls i worked in porn (though like i said, making sites isn't really working in porn) and sometimes the reactions were interesting. had a few girls say they wanted me to "make them a pornstar".

Internet marketing, have enough mainstream sites to show that end and not show the adult end if needed. So depends on the girl if she gets 50% or full disclosure.

Unless you have some sort of mental disorder (narcissistic, sociopath, psychopath, borderline personality etc), you are honest upfront... not just as a matter of respecting the other person but in understanding that if you don't, its going to likely blow up later feel like deceit/dishonesty and will destroy trust.

Internet marketing like everyone else. After a few drinks however, I usually blow it with the classic:
'Did you know that most of the online traffic is either adult or gambling? '

My friends seem to enjoy telling people too. It's bizarre to them all.

Websites and internet marketing. Very few people that I meet assume porn. If they pass my tests for 2-3 weeks then I'd mention that some of my websites are adult.

The "backend parts"

I have always told anyone I met when I was shooting and staring in my own porn vid's that I shoot porn and I fuck feet. For the girls I didn't want to date or thought were gross. I said I did gay bareback porn with black men. *shrugs* Like I said Ive always been too truthful about what I did and do. Also if I got into a relationship and wanted out, I would tell them I was bi and turned gay. This one girl said she didn't mind and she always wanted to try a strap on with a guy.

Adult has always been only a piece of what I do, but I prefer being around people who make the effort to get to know me. I found it easier to communicate what I do when I was in print magazines. Since the transition to the web, it makes me sad that people always assume some ridiculous thing, no matter how much I spell it out for them.

tell em straight up right off the bat its not fair otherwise and I explain that as well. No point n investing time and feelings into something that cant work.

I take them for a long drive out in the countryside at night...then show'em my handcuffs.
