Too bad they didn't build one out here in the miles and miles of empty desert in Nevada.

Of course the Feds own over 80% of all the land here in Nevada :( So maybe it's easier to work with the communist govt. in China than it is to wade through the bureaucracy and corruption in Washington D.C.

Their factories are in China. Highly unlikely they even thought of Nevada.

So will they be providing energy to their (and aren't those plants not apple's, but just subcontractors) plants?

Perhaps, but evidenced by other links in this thread, they have a reputation issue with pollution in China and this looks awfully good. Mark is being blinded by his love for Apple.

I have an iPhone and iMac. Love them both, but Apple doesn't shit angels.

On related note - don't apple have cash in the bank? If so - they should build solar plants because it is money in the bank right now, very good profits in certain countries.

You didn't read the document you linked to.

The company that polluted is an Apple Supplier named Catcher Sujian. 4 Months later, as the article says, Apple slammed them for it.

Your article also says "Catcher?s Suqian factory, in addition to producing components for Apple, contracts with Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Lenovo, Sony, HTC, Motorola and other well-known international brands, CLW and Green America say."

Once again, you prove yourself to be lazy. Time for another nap.

Perhaps. I have an iPhone and several Macs. Considering how many products Apple sells though, its cool to see them doing what they are doing (recycling, green energy, less poisons in their materials, etc). It's not perfect but its pretty good to me. This is one of the reasons why I will at least consider another Mac the next time I'm in the market for a new computer.

No I did read the document. As per my op here , apple finally did something about it, whatever slamming means. Keep not being able to see bigger picture concepts.

There is a huge solar plant just inside the Nevada border when you drive from SoCal up to Vegas. You can see it from the freeway.

update-
it's right inside the california border and it's the largest mother fucker of its kind on the planet, 365 megawatts or something like that, nevada doesn't get any of that power either.

Cool.

Now if we could just do one in the desert in Nevada...oh snap, we can't. The Feds own all the land. :(

DUDE! You have just solved the fat problem and the unemployment/welfare problem in the US.. Not to mention green energy...

We need to wire tread mills up to the power grid and let people work for their welfare, school education and have a fat ass tax for over weight people..unemployment ect..ect..

Brb gonna go talk to Ted about this.

The Fed owns plenty of land that is leased by private companies for business purposes. Fed ownership of the vast Nevada desert is not preventing any private company from working out an agreement that would allow them to create a solar farm.

Fact: More than half the federal land leased for energy drilling is unexplored. Energy firms say it wouldn?t be profitable enough.
Who Owns The West? Oil & Gas Leases in America's West

This article points out that using federal land for private use is actually significantly cheaper than if it were private: Grazing on federal land under threat because of drought - LA Times

Quote:

If public land is not available, ranchers could find private property to graze their animals, paying as much as 16 times more than on federal ground.

Robbie 04-23-2015 08:12 PM

Sounds nice Sly...but there has to be a reason they only built on the California side of the desert and NOT on the Fed owned Nevada land.

Usually it's the exact opposite. Businesses don't want to deal with the hassle of the State Of California and their high taxes and fees for everything so they set up shop in Nevada (no corporate tax, costs less for everything here).

But (as I said about China and Apple), it must be easier doing business with California than it is to do business with the Feds.
I'm sure that there is probably years and years of red tape and paperwork, etc.

You would think that since the entire Democrat Party is convinced of manmade global warming...that they would not only "allow" solar to be built here...but would DEMAND it and fund it from the govt.

But for some reason...that ain't happening yet.

Can't figure that one out. I thought that Global Warming was the biggest disaster in the history of mankind. You would think they would do SOMETHING...oh, that's right: They're making money with "carbon credits". My bad. :(

eh.

You said "Finally" as if Apple is only taking responsibility now. You said "Maybe" as if to imply that maybe they aren't doing anything. You said "eh" as if it doesn't make a difference. From this I can take that you can't admit when you're wrong, even to yourself. Lazy.

You had to go dig up an article thats been out of date for 4 years to reaffirm your beliefs? Weak. And lazy.

Bingo! While their site says they're doing it for themselves, I'm positive they can make a ton of money with this too. China's starving for electricity. Maybe soon solar will be cheaper than coal in China.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing that the States governors and differences in state taxes and incentives, state populations, and state markets have something to do with it.

Nope! Not the reason. Here's whats going on:

Advocates accuse state, NV Energy of anti-solar bias | Las Vegas Review-Journal

Nevada Republican Governor Brian Sandoval isn't big on Solar.

Robbie 04-23-2015 08:46 PM

Mark, it's far cheaper to do business in Nevada.

Not sure if the Gov. is "against" solar. But NV Energy (owned by good old Warren Buffet) sure is.

Also not sure if the Gov. would have ANY say-so in federal land use. That's been a point of contention here with the Feds in case you didn't notice the headlines last year.

Having said that...the biggest crook in all of Nevada (though he actually lives in Washington D.C. at The Carlton Ritz Hotel), Sen. Harry Reid always gets what he wants for Nevada (and his rich buddies).
And if Warren Buffet says "no" and Harry Reid says "no"...there isn't a damn thing the Governor of Nevada can do about it since it is FEDERAL land.

dyna mo 04-23-2015 09:35 PM

so according to **********, apple's gone from being big violator of human rights and international environmental laws to a corp that squirts out unicorns and rainbows while making iphone 6.
