Fossil Fuels Just Lost the Race Against Renewables

The race for renewable energy has passed a turning point. The world is now adding more capacity for renewable power each year than coal, natural gas, and oil combined. And there's no going back.

The shift occurred in 2013, when the world added 143 gigawatts of renewable electricity capacity, compared with 141 gigawatts in new plants that burn fossil fuels, according to an analysis presented Tuesday at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance annual summit in New York. The shift will continue to accelerate, and by 2030 more than four times as much renewable capacity will be added.

Deep Smile here :pimp
Too bad hungarian politician scums just ordered a crappy russian nuclear plant which produces the same amount of energy from the point they turn it on until they shut it down so only gas from russians again can satisfy our energy needs. They just put extra tax on solar panels. I am not kidding :(
If we continue this way I have no option but to leave my homeland for a better place on Earth..

I just hope that thye abandon that "grill" type solar plant desing, where you get millions readily roasted birds per year. That is not very environmental friendly.

You're referring to the system that uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight on a boiler, but yeah thats pretty screwed up. Then again, this method kills a lot less birds than Oil pollution does.

If they can figure out a way - maybe some kind of high frequency noise - that would scare the birds away, then they would be all set.

... or maybe some huge nets to keep the birds away...

using ********** logic, we should ban windows, you know, on account of the birds.

Better not to build "death rays" like that. It will kill every living thing, the birds are just the most obvious ones. As for example the birds and other animals come to eat dead insects (not just accidentally coming across).

This is just a babystep.

Adding NEW energy production isn't the same as replacing all the OLD sources.

And of the new plants added it is still about half renewable and half fossil fuels (mostly COAL not oil for electricity)

Here in Nevada of course it's been "renewable" (todays terminology) energy generation since 1936.
Plenty of other places also have always used Hydro.

Anyway, once the numbers for ALL existing power supplies are about 50/50 (like the "new" ones are)...then we'll be actually getting there.
This is just the very beginning.
Not yet time to pop the cork on the champagne.

Now you just have to overcome that small obstacle called sunset, and you're all good!

Well, it doesn't actually set, so problem solved. :)

Also, for example plants have solved this problem long time ago.

No doubt that electricity can certainly be generate 100% by "renewable" sources (sun, wind, hydro, etc.)

But one thing can't change: Heating homes. When people living in cold places have temps below zero outside (like the NorthEast U.S. in the winter)...they have to have heating oil or natural gas to keep from freezing.

I'm sure that since Mark Prince lives in Canada that even he is burning fossil fuels to keep warm in the cold winter.
