I think the time is coming when more and more people are beginning to look at viable alternative forms of electricity in an effort to shift away from the big monopolized hydro companies that are gouging the shit out of our wallets.

Everyone you talk to these days is expressing anger over the hydro companies and their constant monthly increases (not to mention CEO salaries, bonuses, retirement packages and golden parachutes).

Innovative companies like Tesla seem to be trying to come up with alternatives at least.

Combine a powerwall with a solar array on your roof (space you're not using anyways)...and dump even more energy to the batteries.

while completely impractical for most people in most situations, the more of these start-ups there are the quicker innovations in battery tech and solar panels and inverters will happen which will in turn make these sorts of systems much more practical, feasible and economical for more people.

This could be really great. There's no law forcing us to use the main "public" grid is there? This could blow house sales through the roof!

one thing is for certain, Elon Musk is bringing a lot of attention to systems like these.

if you appreciate a killer keynote, he delivered it for the launch of the pwerwall, it's a good watch

Looks friggin awesome, watched the presentation as well.

Would like to know some more numbers though.

On their website for the specs of the powerwall they are saying

It can Power 2.0 kW continuous, 3.3 kW peak

As an example If you reach 2.0 kW continuous for 24 hours, is that the same as you have spent 48kw that 24 hour cycle ?

How does that fit with the model 10 kWh $3,500.

Correct me if im wrong, just want to understand the numbers.

I think its a great idea, I'm all for it, and I hope this and similar renewable energy sources catch on and become more mainstream.

I did read this few months ago. I once saw online a nuclear power source that was the size of a chest and could power a neighborhood for sale in the middle east.
