Two near-misses today - whew!

I was directly in front of this vehicle at the hospital about 20 mins before the elderly woman lost control and ran another lady over and pinned her benath the car. The victim is now in hospital in critical condition.

Story - UPDATE 2: Woman critical after car strike | St. Catharines Standard

And then on my drive home I witness and was first on-scene for a bad truck accident. Dude lost control of the vehicle, plowed through a solid concrete retainer block, continued across a driveway and slammed head-on into a huge tree. I pulled over on the highway and ran to the scene. His cab was completely filled with smoke...I thought the truck was on fire so my first thought was to get him out. But after we opened both doors the smoke dissipated - it was the discharge from the airbag.

He was shaken up pretty bad and had a bad cut on his hand, but otherwise seemed alright. I kept him talking until fire, ambulance and police arrived to take over the scene. Truck was a write-off - he told me he'd just bought it 2 months ago.

It happened right in front of me in the oncoming lanes, he just seemed to lose control and left the highway...went airborne for a short distance, blew out the tires, bent the axle, fucked up the front end rather badly.

I had a close call or a slight hit today, I guess it depends if you call the glass half full or half empty.... I was using my table saw cutting a piece of wood, hit the off switch and went to grab the board as the blade was winding down. I dunno why I did that, but I nicked the shit out of my thumb on the blade. Was a fucking shocker at first that is for sure because I couldn't tell if it was real bad or not. Luckily it was just a slight nic at the end of my thumb where the skin is real thick.

Learned my lesson that I thought I already knew.. :error

I'll bet you anything at least one of these accidents was caused by a two footed driver. When you see an accident where someone "plowed through something", or stepped on the gas instead of the brake, it's likely some idiot who learned to drive with a foot on each pedal. They're one of the biggest scourges on the road.

You can tell when you're behind one because they drive away from a red light while the brake lights are on.

I remember seeing those or something like it quite a few years ago but never thought about it since. That is a pretty bad ass saw and well thought out. I'm just doing a small project now but if I set up another shop I'll probably get one of those. My thumb is worth more than $1,500 to me and it was damn sure a wake up call because I've always tried to be very safe with that kind stuff. It just shows though that one momentary fuck up can fuck you up for ever.

I recall my 7th grade teacher we nicknamed 'Rip Lip' - he had this messed up lower jaw that had been re-constructed after he tangled with a chainsaw that went rogue and slipped its chain. Really did a number on him. I still remember the visual - and to this day I'm still a little leery whenever I use my chainsaw in the yard.

As you say - it just takes a momentary fuck up to do some real permanent damage. He was cool about the injury at the time...used to joke about it a bit. But it was quite disfiguring and he always talked like an NHL player that'd taken too many pucks to the face.

No shit - I actually began thinking that way by the end of the day. :1orglaugh

The wife said these things tend to happen in threes - but today was uneventful. Hopefully I broke the cycle.

I see people driving two footed all the time here in LA... you can tell (obviously) because their brake lights are on when they're accelerating. When I lived in the UK that would be a ticket and points on your license. And yes, it's fucking dangerous--about ten years ago, some old guy driving two footed plowed through the Farmer's Market in the city I live in, and killed several people including a newborn baby.

Best saw on the market! Well thought out design and construction. I put it through hell everyday, and am still impressed with the design. Just do not cut anything conductive with it..I.E. metal laminate. One of my guys went to rip some strips off a sheet and Bam, fucking thing sounded like a shot gun, and I swear the tip off the blade made just a nick on the material. Impressive to say the least.
