Are adult boards something of the past?
I think it might be. I remember how it was back in 2000+, i even had a board myself which was doing pretty well, however nothing compared to large boards.
In recent years since 2010 or so board having become quite and a place to just post porn and unrelated stuff. Real business between webmaster is not taking place any longer and quality people are hard to find. Gfy is still ok but could be better. Besides gfy it is a dying part of the industry it seems. What are you thoughts about it and do you still see it as a viable way to do business and or have you find other channels to get business (done). :pimp |
I am just as guilty as posting random shit, however other than "spam" there are few if not no useful industry tips and partnerships / mentoring being shared here.
In the past, there were way more helpful threads and I believe a lot less scamming of one another. The board here still has value. Don't want it to go, but I think it kills far more of my time rather than being productive. |
GFY will never die ...

But yeah, most of the webmaster boards are dead. Besides here I still post over at Ynot often - there are maybe just 20 regular posters there but they're all quality longtime folks (well YMMV with Markham) with minimal bullshit. The industry has simply contracted big-time, no two ways about it. And though economically it's improved from the worst recession tubes-are-killing-us-all days, there's not a lot of new blood coming in, plus more & more slices of the pie (and traffic) are getting gobbled up by the big players. So fewer of us smaller operations who are more likely to post on the boards and actually get some use out of them. |

The board are what you make of them.
By that I mean, not just here by forums in general, including non-adult. Most forums are filled with drama, and whining and bickering back and forth. All seem to have some degree of posters from CNN or Fox News to stir the pot. I think the main difference now is, you have 90% bullshit and 10% gems. You simply have to search for them more than before. Most seem to admit to at least reading GFY if they no longer post here, or on forums. Often times people simply reach out to you on PM/IM when they see a post or something of interest versus going back and forth in a thread for a week with fragment sentences. I would much rather jump on a 15-30 minute phone call to kick ideas back and forth, or discuss whatever topic at hand for the query, versus bickering and bullshit on forums for a week. Forums have their use and value, depending on your end goal. I simply think most people's priorities have changed on how they use the forums in general. |
forums in general are a dated thing.

I can get more/better info from a handful of Facebook groups than on boards these days. Some of those groups have their full-of-shit posts/people too, but they quickly get called out. I don't really do much adult anyways, but even mainstream boards aren't what they used to be. |

Most of the webmasters have been pushed out of the business by shady tube corporation who control virtually all of the porn traffic now.

[QUOTE=deltav;20474204]As you say there are still good knowledgeable folks here, but you have to put on blinders if you want it to be a net productive experience. I decided to stay out of any conspiracy, race baiting, Russia vs USA, personal drama, etc threads and the experience is way better since - it basically sifts out all the assholes, mentally ill, & OCD idiots because they rarely participate in actual business threads.

Long live the GFY

I don't waste my time with mainstream (Facebook, Instagram, etc). I spend ALL my time sitting in front of a computer working on my sites so the LAST thing I want to do is use the Internet for entertainment or a way to connect with people. When I am done working I want to get OUTSIDE and experience real life. LOL

@ OP Adult boards with vetted members are not a thing of the past, they are the future. Divide & conquer. If GFY was strong, scammers would be weaker. Who has a vested interest in GFY disintegrating? Why are they allowed to continue here? We all have decades of knowledge between us. There are secret places to safely discuss & grow openly. It's just a matter of committing to a change of scenery & trusting to plant your seeds of knowledge with others and grow together with other old timers, and newcomers, in a productive community. |
GFY will always have a base of creepy old fucks and dumb shit foreigners using it. Business isn't done on the board and never has been. It's a great place to vent or network a bit but if you think transactions are done in plain sight you're crazy - that doesn't happen in any industry.

a lot of good points here, i do see also a change on mainstream boards but they are still active and useful to connect with others.

yes its changed a lot, I remember about 10 years ago there were about 90 active adult forums , I think a lot of people have moved to twitter etc. xbiz and gfy are the only really active adult forums left afaik. even twitter may purge the adult 10 million Twitter accounts could be deleted in porn purge to satisfy advertisers - News - Gadgets and Tech - The Independent

Boards are not a thing of the past. People communicating privately, and being more selective of what they post publicly, is the current reality, especially on boards like GFY that are public with no verification process other than an email.
What's hurting the industry is organized crime (posing as paying members) stealing from members areas to post on specific filesharing & tube sites, in a specific way. People still pay for porn, and when you can have access to the most recent updates ( within hours ) from every porn site on the internet, who are you going to pay? The criminals have caused all the low hanging fruit to sell their sites cheap or close shop, the good news is they don't realize the value and fortitude of who's left. The criminals got complacent. To this day they don't realize who's tracking what they do, where, and how much information they've gathered. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh :321GFY It's important to remember, and honor, the customer base out there that subscribes to the actually paysite. A big thank you to all of them, they are what sustains us and enable us to move forward through these challenging times. |
