Does anyone here use Slack with their team?
 

It seems like https://slack.com/ is hot right now with it being deployed and used among teams in many mainstream companies to communicate. Looks like there is a lot of 3rd party functionality that hooks into your various channels too. Anyone here rely on this tool?

I use it at my day job. It works fine and gets the job done. There's a lot of hype around it that I think is unwarranted. Hipchat works just as well and has integrations for pretty much everything you need. Both have an API so you can create your own automation, notifications, and bots as well.

We were actually considering Hipchat as well. Slack seems like the winner in the category and I tend to like to go in that direction. Hipchat does look compelling though.

We tried it briefly but nobody really understood why we needed it. It seemed like a bunch of hype. We're back to XMPP most of the time.
