Makes perfect sense,why waste it

Captain Kawaii 05-22-2015 06:47 AM

Nice to see some gov making a sane move these days. You couldn't do it in the US for fear of law suits or "antics" on someone's part etc but viva le france. :thumbsup

TeenCat 05-22-2015 06:48 AM

in swiss it is a standart that the big supermarket networks are giving food outside for poor people, and not the expired, but the tagged as after market sell time, expiration time is depending on the product longer ... but nice that france is doing the same now ... :thumbsup shame that in france it must be a move of the goverment, not move of humanity as in swiss :winkwink: :2 cents:

How soon until this turns into a complaint about moochers and freeloaders? How dare they!

klinton 05-22-2015 07:38 AM

the critics of this bill say that it should be also for smaller shops and markets, and supermarkets already do that (give to charity).
anyway, now they are obliged by law to do it, and those who will not - they will pay fines 50,000-100,000 euros....

Food is cheap. A lot of the cost is positional goods. That brand of wine, this brand of whatever. The clearest example is bottled water, which is often taken from the city tap water anyway.

It's obscene to deny people and throw away perfectly valid food just to preserve appearances in this brand name game, and it won't make any difference. The people buying evian won't start taking the stuff from the discards anymore than they were rifling the dumpsters before.

that is the way they solve the homeless problem, but it is hard to get in there, and once you are there, and you for example hitchhike or squat somewhere, people report you, police get you and say you bye on nearest border with not welcomed stamp in your papers :)

BlackCrayon 05-22-2015 09:15 AM

i guess the poor are only deserving of garbage food. how insulting.

Markets should just do it...Law or no law. Cash is nice but Cancer Society of America is a sad case in point of "charities." I think in Los Angeles there are phone numbers for markets to call and all will be taken care of. Its sad they have to make a law to force people to do it but... Stop making people dumpster dive. Its shameful. :upsidedow

Nice to see common sense being adopted. I have a family member who works on on the rail network and the local sandwich bars/cafes bring in trays of unsold sandwiches and rolls and they ask for them to be distributed to the homeless.

Soviet Union (the Union of Soviet Socialistic Republics), Cuba and China are socialism (with national coloring, of course). Venezuela is a presidential democratic republic. North Korea is a sect. As far as I know, the best progress in socialism was achieved by Sweden. There is no real communist country on planet Earth, but according to the news posted in this thread, France is moving towards it faster than others..
