yes, i do live somewhat near there. in fact, i'm also a member of my LA neighborhood CERT team and we are awaiting the call to go help clean up the mess. they are not allowing non-hazmat crews in at this time. it will probably be memorial day Monday when we get the text. I'll be busy spending my holiday cleaning up pollution while you're busy looking down your nose at others you assume to be less than you.

When I was a teenager my older sister lived in Pismo Beach and she would get a little tar on the bottom of her foot while walking on the beach and she would rail against the oil companies and tanker ships for polluting the beach, I never had the heart to tell her that "Pizmo" is a local native American word that translates to "tar" in english, the Pismo Creek flows from the natural oil seeps in Price Canyon down to the ocean.

A couple years ago I found a chunk of tar the size of a loaf of bread on the beach, a perfectly natural thing.

But this is California, where the Hazmat Team gets called in if you car drips a spot of oil. It's become a HUGE THING that the equivalent of about 3 tank cars leaked and about two thirds of a tank car actually made it into the ocean.

A year from now you will never know it happened, except for the endless lawsuits filed by the radical treehuggers and the raft of new laws that the leftist California legislature will now crank out as a result of this very minor spill. :1orglaugh

Aren't oil spills always worse than they initially say? Like ten times worse.

I was at San Padre Island National park when they had the oil spill in Houston last year. They closed the park, but they didn't kick anyone out, just wouldn't let you back in if you left. I was a few miles down the beach and had enough supplies to stay awhile but fuck after about 3 days the tar balls were everywhere.

It was no where near as bad as these pictures but even still the shit would get on everything and I don't get how the fuck they can clean it up over miles and miles of beach like that, specially when it gets into the rocks. Where I was at, it was all sand, so it was easy to just pick up the tar balls and put them in a bag, but fuck I dunno how they clean off rocky beaches.
