When you read a book do you...

.. Have to read it ASAP or can you take a month or three?

Also, do you ever read more than one book at a time?

I am on month five of Truman's biography. My girlfriend, my mom, my sister and several friends think that is bananas. They also freak out that I am reading five different books and trade off between them regularly. On the Truman one I only read a few pages per night though. Others I might read a chapter or two per sitting.

nm_ 05-22-2015 12:57 PM

I couldn't do this. Do you actually absorb what you're reading when splitting time amongst that many books?

I usually have to read something as fast as possible, or I just lose interest too fast hahah

fitzmulti 05-22-2015 01:08 PM

Reading bores me. Yes, I admit it.

Socks 05-22-2015 01:11 PM

It's so easy.
Like reading a good book...
...in a room with no TV.

kane 05-22-2015 01:23 PM

It depends. If I am really into the book I will try to make time to read it and get through it pretty quickly. If I am interested, but not super into it then it might take me a while. I never read more than one book at the same time. I would rather focus my attention on just one.

CurrentlySober 05-22-2015 01:44 PM

I used to read a lot - a real lot... Then I discovered audiobooks ad hardly read anymore. I have replaced sitting on my ass with a book, with going for a long walk and listening to it.

But, only one audiobook at a time :)

loreen 05-22-2015 01:45 PM

I read multiple books at a time, but if I really like one I take the time to finish it first :)

MiamiBoyz 05-22-2015 02:57 PM

Most people don't read books at all. Romance novels do not count as actual books. Neither do magazines.

OH and while we are at it...watching "Keeping up with the Kardashians" doesn't count as watching a documentary as most Americans foolishly think.

CaptainHowdy 05-22-2015 03:02 PM

I retroactively learned that I read slowly the books that took a while to be written, and the ones that were written fast in a couple of sittings.

Does anyone actually say that? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I tend to read one book at a time.

A book either goes very quickly or very slowly for me. Right now I am reading a book about the Gestapo during WWII under the Nazi party. Interesting, but kind of boring. The last book I read before that was by the "Cherry Pie" girl - You know, the chick in the video for the song Cherry Pie. I couldn't put that book down - I wanted to see what was next.

Sometimes a book is too good to put down, so I read it all the way through. Most of the time I'm like you reading a number of books at a time. I use a Kindle these days.

cybermike 05-22-2015 04:28 PM

I need people to read to me in audiobooks

love reading books, far prefer it to TV (watch almost zero television, once a week at the girlfriend's house is it, or catching a series already out on netflix... save for better call saul - the only show in about 15 years I can think of that I watched as the episodes came out).

Anyway, new books I read one at a time, when I am out of new ones and getting a list of fresh ones, I'll go back to old favourites, and if I've already read them twice or more, can then chop/change between a few at a time. About a 30/70 mix these days of fiction/non-fiction.

Zone out if anyone but me is reading, so audiobooks are off the menu, and I'm old school - they have to be paper and ink :)

Spunky 05-22-2015 09:26 PM

Reading makes my brain hurt.

Theo 05-22-2015 10:36 PM

i can read up to 6-7 books in parallel and I usually do, when there's an important book i'll go back and re-read parts I highlighted as important.

JFK 05-22-2015 10:53 PM

I tend to buy books at airports for long flights. Depending on the book, I may read it during a couple of flights. If its boring, its longer:2 cents:

I absorb the info. To me it is no different than watching a favorite set of shows over several different nights they air on.

Will have to try the audio thing. But I usually only read before bed. B

pornguy 05-23-2015 05:25 AM

I often read more than one book at a time. Usually have one in the car, one in the bathroom and one in my bedroom or what ever.

Well you know my attention span very well, nuff said there lol.

The twilight series, I set my alarm to get up early to read it before anyone else in the house woke up. It didn't take me long to go through them.

Other books? Newp. Nothing has ever enthralled me so much. No idea why. I'm sure I could never take 5 months to read a book. I'd forget the first half by the time I got to the last half.

LetterTwenty7 05-23-2015 10:28 AM

I am reading three books at the same time. Maybe it is semi-bananas :)
I think that if you feel like doing it this way, then why not. The 'results' are going to be the same if you read one by one, anyway.

Markul 05-23-2015 10:33 AM

I read every night. Right now American Sniper. Chris is a fucking epic badass! :thumbsup

J. Falcon 05-24-2015 11:42 AM

One book at a time. 1 - 3 months to finish a book depending on how interesting I find it. Mostly fiction.

SIK 05-24-2015 04:40 PM

Back in younger days (before I became hooked on internet), I used to read like a crazy.

To answer your question directly - asap, as in 3 days and the book is gone. Plus, I have OCD so if I start reading something and by figure it's crap, I'll still read it.

I don't read at all literature and it's sad.
