The charges are said to include money laundering, racketeering and wire fraud over the last 20 years
I don't think the Americans here will grasp how huge this will be in Europe.....

I was going to say its like finding out Obama is white - But, it's more like finding out Bush is Black...

ReggieDurango 05-26-2015 11:13 PM

The timing is designed to get rid of Blatter - The elections are on Friday...

Fifa has control of funds that resemble a small country.....

ZeroHero 05-27-2015 04:21 AM

niice, put them away!

Captain Kawaii 05-27-2015 04:38 AM

Its a nice diversion away from FIFA currently considering the removal/red carding of the Israeli team for 2016.

Sam - Mr. Skin 05-27-2015 04:44 AM

Anyone who isn't completely asleep has known how corrupt FIFA has been for decades. So I don't know how it comes a surprise to you or anyone else.

Sam - Mr. Skin 05-27-2015 04:46 AM

The only shocking part is that something is actually being done about it.

Nobody is surprised about the corruption itself.

Qatar was awarded the World Cup. Even Americans know how corrupt it is.

100% - However, have they got the right people and how much has this been orchestrated?..

Even this move stinks of something unpleasant.....

michael.kickass 05-27-2015 05:49 AM

This is a great day for soccer fans, heheh, I hope all these old farts rot in prison.

If everyone knows they are corrupt, then why does it take the US, whom really isn't even very involved with fifa to bring charges? Why didn't the Euro's police their own?

Guess this is payback for the Euro's singling out Lance Armstrong.. When every other cyclist was also doping..

The answer to your question is Jordan...

pornguy 05-27-2015 06:52 AM

I read they are a non profit with more than a billion sitting in the bank and reserves.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. They really need to arrest Blatter, because he might survive this if they don't.

They singled him out because he was the ringleader and he kept winning. Or so it seemed.

What makes you think Americans wouldn't understand this? Here in the US we have "deflategate" and it's been pretty huge. If something similar happened with the NFL we would feel the same way.

TheSquealer 05-27-2015 09:16 AM

I've never watched a full game in my life and couldn't name one current player to save my life but when I heard the news, I was shocked. I don't think 99% of Americans will grasp what a massive event this is outside the country for sure.

BFT3K 05-27-2015 09:16 AM

Finally, the world goes after the corrupt bankers, and starts to arrest... Huh? What? It's just soccer? Oh, nevermind...

You're being silly.

Deflategate doesn't even come remotely close to what's been happening forwever in FIFA. And people may dislike American Sports, but compared to FIFA they are squeaky clean. Sports in the US are closely scrutinized and I don't think outright corruption would ever be tolerated since there is way too much legitimate money to be lost for a lot of parties involved. The entire world has known FIFA is corrupt for the past 2 decades, at least.

RyuLion 05-27-2015 09:19 AM

No surprise here but why do you guys have to always mention race?

Ross 05-27-2015 09:44 AM

The timing couldn't be better IMO. Well ok maybe it could have been, perhaps two weeks ago would be better as then maybe Luis Figo wouldn't have dropped out of the election. IMO he is the man FIFA needs to be in charge. He was one of the best players of his generation, he played for two of the biggest clubs ever and he seems like a pretty good guy who would do the right thing for the game.

I really hope the election is cancelled and someone convinces Figo to put his name back on the ballot. I think common sense will prevail and he will realize this is the change he needed to happen, I hope so anyway.

He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He didn't get that the point was that soccer/football is. barely watched in the U.S. and that Americans at large won't get how big this will be outside of the U.S.

He seems to think the suggestion was that people aren't intellectually capable of understanding the concept and offered an example where people "got it" which when read in the proper light is unintentional comedy at its best.

Nothing to do with Armstrong... that's paranoism...

It's because American banks were used to transport money and because American sportmarketing companies and the American soccer union Concacaf is involved... they raided them too...

You both missed my point. We had deflategate and it's still big news here.

If the NFL here in the US was hit with a corruption case our response would be about the same. So yes, we can relate.
