An eccentric Ohio judge told a scofflaw teen to take a hike -- and walk 30 miles for stiffing a cabbie for a ride of the same length or face 30 days in the slammer.

Painesville Judge Michael Cicconetti, known for his unusual punishments, meted out the sentence to Victoria Bascom, 19, after she was found guilty of theft for not paying her cab fare of $100, Ciconnetti's secretary Diane Armstrong told ABC News today.

its a walk across the city. take a camera and phone and maybe a friend. there are stores on every corner here. could be fun! i've walked further on the res to get to a store.

I like to walk. 1km in 10 min is walking good speed. So 1 mile in 16 min.
30 miles in 8 hours.
That is at the speed you (even as a regular walker) could not maintain for the whole 30 miles.
Doable in 12 hours if you are used to walking.

Seems to me she was found guilty of committing a crime, and the judge gave her thirty days in the slammer for it. Small crime, small amount of punishment. However, if she wants to avoid jail, she can hike thirty miles. Might just teach her a lesson.

So how is controlling her while she walks the walk?

Maybe she was using her head and didn't want to give head to the taxi driver - The story needs more info.....

The only issue I have with this is, How did this help the cabbie. Maybe she should have to pay the 100 and walk the 30.

Did he also make her pay the cab fare? Personally I think this kind of stuff teaches a lesson better than conventional punishment but the cab company should still get their money.

I did 20 miles hiking in the mountains before and that was brutal. 10 to 15 as far as mountain hikes seems to be the sweet spot, but on flat ground I think 30 is doable, but not for someone whom isn't used to it.

Now this is what I am and have been saying! Fuck throwing people str8 to jail for simple crimes like this or drugs. Do as this judge is doing. Make it so no one would ever EVER have to face another judge. The way it is now a days Jail or prison don't seem scary like it was when I was growing up. Probably due to all the prison movies out there now.

When I was growing up I was scared little of anything but Jail was one of them that I was scared, and knowing bubba would take my ass virginity was another. Prison or Jail or going to court for a crime shouldn't be a normal thing like it is now a days. You should be pissing your pants at the thought of seeing a judge. *shrugs*
