Zite traffic ?

On my blog who was getting some 40 000 page views each day, I started receiving some 80 000 extra page views in direct access (according to Google Analytics).

I was thinking about a robot attack but after checking what was happening my tech told me traffic is coming from the Zite mobile application.

Is this kind of traffic worth for an adult site ?

Nobody using Zite on its mobile ?

freecartoonporn 06-04-2015 10:16 PM

never heard of it.

Content consumed on Zite is typically locked within the Zite app, unless the user chooses to open the page in their mobile browser - which very few do.

I use Zite all the time to read articles from sources such as Search Engine Land or to discover new content in my realms of interest. I've never seen adult content on Zite, maybe the OP can confirm if it's an adult site or a mainstream site he's getting the traffic to.

Below are some screenshots from the Zite app. Content opens up in the Zite content viewer, with a link underneath which allows the user to open the original web page.

The best use of this traffic is to propagate your content and your brand, using hyperlinks to drive people to your sites is not going to always be effective depending upon your content. People use apps like Zite or Flipboard to consume a great deal content from the one place. It's counter-intuitive to hop from Zite to a browser when the next interesting story can be consumed from within the app.

Never heard of Zite, but it seems they have been aquired by flipboard, I receive some traffic from them on a mainstream site.

Flipboard's acquisition of Zite amounts more to a partnership with CNN than outright takeover, there will be an ongoing content deal between the companies.

Flipboard and Zite both share the same market but the apps are somewhat different. Flipboard originally involved reading content in a magazine format from predefined sources whereas Zite originally involved content delivery based on interests of the user. Now the functionality of each has cross pollinated and the apps are moving closer together in functionality.

Both Zite and Flipboard have hundreds of millions of installs, the bulk of them on iOS devices however for Flipboard alone the number of installs on the Play store is between 100 - 500 million.

This is all part of a trend since 2010 of something called "lean back content" or "Lean Back 2.0". There are millions of people who never visit websites for content directly anymore, they use Facebook, Flipboard, Zite or other content discovery apps.

Thanks AdultKing.

When you write "Content is locked" does it means banners adds stop working ?
If banners are blocked I see no reason to let Zite ripped my pages without benefits.

When you read an article on Zite all your hyperlinks are still there, your images are still there, there is a button at the bottom of the content to open it in the web browser. Depending upon your RSS/XML syndication settings and how you markup your content your banners can also appear.

When I say the content is locked into Zite, what I mean is that people can swipe from one piece of content to the next without leaving the app. Because people are conscious of using Zite as a content discovery tool and to read a lot of good content it's less likely that readers will venture outside the app.

Since your traffic has doubled, specifically because of this app, create an experience just for these users that gives them the same content, but with your advertising in a way that they can see, and act on.

Also give these users a "subscribe" link optimized for mobile, or even an app to feed them your content from, no joke. As TeenCat would say, have luck :thumbsup

Sites like Mashable do this very well, they provide ad free content that can be shared from within Zite and provide a way for users to engage with them while preserving the uncluttered and seamless content experience Zite provides. Engadget, Search Engine Land and other publishers do likewise.

These apps are great for brand awareness, if someone enjoys your content and you provide them an easy way to engage with your publication via these apps then it's win win.

Yep the main problem is that I'm an affiliate, so I have no brand of mine.

But yesterday, I've added the Zite user agent to the mobile link of my main banner. Let see what happen. May be I should also add a different campaign for only this user agent to compare Zite traffic to classic mobile traffic.

Change your mindset. Google, tumblr, instagram, all make money off user generated content. Like them, brand yourself, you'll be an asset to your sponsors. Good you're acting quick, keep it up!

Use GA & create funnels to see what coverts best. Stay extremely in tuned and mold yourself to convert to that traffic.
