Cloudflare has now been dragged kicking and screaming into the real world where it can no longer offer safe harbour to illegal, infringing or criminal websites.

Was never sure why they could do what they do for such sites, but Youtube has to remove infringing content and so does everyone else.

Well this judgement, if not overturned, will lead to others which will result in Cloudflare no longer being a "safe haven".

The number of crimeware sites hidden behind Cloudflare is astonishing.

Cloudflare's service is a fantastic one, they are much better off shedding the scum they currently protect.

why people are using cloudflare ?, reverse proxy is nothing new , its just reverse proxy as a service.

It's a CDN that has the lowest cost of entry together with collective protection against DDoS, malicious bots and other cool stuff. Unfortunately all this was very attractive to crimeware and other nefarious sites.

That's completely true, we've deleted lots of blogs linking to file lockers and other infringing sites. It all comes down to how pro-actively you police it. Markul's legal situation may be different from ours - however our legal advice is that we need to take pro-active measures to keep infringing content off our service, so we have policies in place that reflect that.

I'm surprised they haven't immediately appealed, although they have time to consider the judgement - it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I think Cloudflare could have avoided all this by establishing a procedure to allow rights holders to identify infringers and their originating server infrastructure.

On one hand Cloudflare says it is just a pass through service, however on the other they refuse to assist those who are investigating or prosecuting civil actions against their clients.

If they are just a pass through service, why then can't they be cooperative with legal action rather than digging their heels in to protect the infringers ?

Nobody is really interested in Cloudflare per se, the interest is really with the originating host of the service or site as that's who will need to shut down the infringers anyway.

There is push back coming to adult from many sides: Govs, mainstream, religious nut jobs. Bottom line is they believe it diminishes their financial returns when porn is mixed too heavily with mainstream. Twitter just caught that, Pinterest seems to already know it and now imgur, wanting to grow has to slowly curtail some of the hardcore and links.
People in the porn business should be happy about this as it pushes the free-loaders/thieves into being consumers. Sure, people will continue to try and scam but the penalties are getting more stiff...so to speak.

I'm sure you benefit from lots of "borrowed" content on reddit and imgur. Change is coming. Not all at once but deal with it.

I use them because they host common JavaScript and CSS frameworks for free and they are fast. Makes pages load faster. If some other site already used those common libraries my sites get to load them from the browser cache.
