Zimbabwe's economy fell into a hyperinflationary spell under the leadership of dictator Robert Mugabe, who has been the country's President since 1987. Mugabe's economic policy sent the Zimbabwean economy into a tailspin as he implemented price controls and printed endless amounts of money. He was quoted as saying, "Where money for projects has not been found, we will print it."

And they say the people in Africa have it so bad... everyone in Zimbabwe is a millionaire! We've been bamboozled by 'fly on kid' commercials!

If you buy ZWD's for 100$ you could heat complete house for 2 winters by just burning that cash:P

just like modern central banks do ? instead of "projects" you may put there "our friends in banks and governments" and it will be truth...

I didn't mean it in a racial way, just that for the most part, Mugabe has ran on popular political platforms and policies which have ignored any and all economic reality and driven the country into the ground and he's still doing it roughly 40 years later. I'd expect a good 10 years of chaos before a working state was formed, but they are going on 40 and worse off than they were 30 years ago economically.
