The War on drugs is a fucking joke : More evidence

Seriously, a police raid to an office building because of a pain killer shipped by one person to herself is ridiculous.

Busting someone for drugs has become the "trophy bust".
It's all a fucking horse and pony show with little effect whatsoever on illegal drugs.
One bag of drugs means 20 cops with 50 guns show up.

Police raided Toyota?s headquarters and its Tokyo and Nagoya offices on Tuesday after the arrest of a senior American executive on suspicion of drug law violations. A Toyota spokesman, Ryo Sakai, said the company could not comment on the raids because the investigation is ongoing. Julie Hamp, Toyota?s newly appointed head of public relations, was arrested on 18 June on suspicion of importing oxycodone into Japan. The synthetic pain killer is tightly controlled in Japan. Police stated the drugs were in a parcel Hamp mailed to herself. Hamp was in the middle of moving her possessions to Japan. She had been living in a Tokyo hotel, where police arrested her.

Do they have the posibility of death penalty on a case like this in Japan ? just wonder ..

MiamiBoyz 07-01-2015 05:27 PM

The war on drugs is simply a war on the American people - PERIOD!

dyna mo 07-01-2015 05:31 PM

heads-up, this was in Japan, and she shipped 50+ schedule 3 pills to herself hidden as jewelry to circumvent the laws there. she's an idiot pill popper. this isn't about the war on drugs.

The war on drugs is responsible for much of the violence in Mexico which could also attribute to the influx of people coming into the US illegally. Add in that it has done nothing to keep those who want drugs from getting them and has only helped in making some people wealthy and getting politicians elected and it is pretty clear that it is a massive fail

Actually a war on "poor people". You don't see cops raiding well off people for cocaine. Why because they can afford lawyers..

Yep. Bad move.
I travel with prescription drugs with (sometimes signed) copies of the doctor's prescription directions. Never had a problem with customs or airport security however none are schedule 3 controlled substances ...

CaptainHowdy 07-01-2015 06:35 PM

The war on drugs was already a joke a couple of decades ago so ...

The response could try to equal the event responded to.
You'd think she shipped a fucking bomb making kit by the way this was handled.
A bottle of pills is not going to blow up and kill everybody.

NaughtyEmails 07-01-2015 07:17 PM

Yea, this really had little to do with drugs...

It was about busting an American. Good politics in xenophobic Japan. If she were black, it would be even better.

If I get pulled over tonight with 1 oxy out of it's original prescription bottle I'll get arrested. If I don't have a prescription for it it's a felony.

Just spent 3 weeks in the US. Smoked up most evenings. Now I'm back in Malaysia where an ounce of pot can get you the death penalty.

Guess what I don't go near when I'm in Malaysia.

And I'm not half as smart as a Toyota executive. :)

it's a crazy story, been following it for weeks now, from what i've read from a few sources is the oxycodone not only requires a script, but you have to contact the country in advance and request authorized permission to bring those pills into the country.

combine that with the fact she hid the pills. she's an idiot pill popper and i'm not surprised she and toyota japan are getting raked over the coals for this. pretty bad new hire imo.

Regardless of the police reaction/action, she's wrong. Anyone who doesn't check the drug laws when crossing borders is potentially setting themselves up for some big trouble.

If she hid the pills, then she knew. She's at fault, plain and simple.
