Anyone currently consumed by their hobby? I'm obsessed with learning how to play guitar!

According to my guitar learning sw, i've put in ~2500 hours over the last 2 years, that's >3 hours of practice a day every day.

Yesterday I practiced 10 hours, already have 2 hours in today. I dream about playing and even have figured out how to play a difficult measure while sleeping and gotten out of bed to play that part I just figured out! nutty right?

:)

What is a "guitar learning sw" ?

I am into cycling and usually go at least once a day, if not two or three times a day.

This was Treasure Island weekend before last with San Francisco in the background....

Start playing with people, drummers, bass players. It will help your meter.
And its fun.

guitar teaching software? guitar learning software? not sure which is better or right

either way, there is software available to learn how to play guitar. I'm using a combination of Rocksmith, Rocksmith 2014 and justin guitar lessons

andy schiller is a pretty well respected online guitar instructor.

in this video, he takes you through the essentials of beginning how to learn guitar via Rocksmith 2014

I have Rocksmith but something about the mirror image of the neck throws me off.

I have spent a lot of time and money on music production as well. Mainly Ableton Live 9, I'm okay with Logic X.

tabs did the same for me because i started with rs, but after a while your brain sorts it out and it's really no big deal, i can switch from reading rs to reading tablature without missing a beat really.

checking out the ableton live 9, are you using the looper on that? that's where i'm going with my music goals next, looping.

I think that's more for live recording. I do minimal live recording, mostly digital production or mixing/mastering.

I'm probably as bad at what I do as you are at guitar. We would be a perfect fit! LOL.

I read what you said above about waiting six months to play with others. I did one session with a friend, he was using a synthesizer and we plugged it directly into Live. I recorded loops as he played and then modified the loops with effects and various cutting techniques. I ended up with half a dozen loops that made sense within 30 minutes and he had no clue what I was doing, LOL. Anyway my point is, do it even if you suck, it will drastically speed up your learning curve.

Oh and Live is quite an adventure in itself to learn. Since you want to focus on guitar, I would recommend getting something like Reaper. It's a lot simpler and easier to use, plus it's super cheap. Of course if you are on a Mac, just use GarageBand, it's a nice piece of software and pretty easy.

gotcha, i'm thinking a Boss RC looping station would prolly be better for my sitch, i'll need to control it via footpedals live. i had one for a while back when i first started learning guitar, but got rid of it because learning how to work it, learn how to loop and learn guitar and sing was too much. but it's coming time to bring a loop station in on things.

I really should play more guitar, been months since I played any for real. 5 guitars and 3 amps just sitting here lol
