If you're going to spend 3 billion dollars on this type of shit just think of the hundreds of projects that could have been built in communities that would last decades, that millions of people would use and get benefit from.

Here in our local city, they built a 'Flatwater Center" for the boating events - they're calling it a "legacy project". A multi-million dollar facility that'll remain dormant 98% of the year but that we'll continue to pay for upkeep through municipal taxes.

Give it a few years...it'll look like Sarajevo.

Same here, and I am considered sports fan/geek and am the one who usually knows the most about sports in any group of people.
It may not be surprising as those games have nothing to do with Europe, but still - with THAT budget you would expect them to be kind of known even worldwide.
