Google Adsense Tutorial?
So I got approved for Google Adsense, chose some keywords for my #1 site, then sat back and watched Google charge me $300 for shitty traffic that did not convert. LOL I am certain it is because I know ZERO about Google Adsense, how to work a campaign, keywords to choose, etc etc.
The Admin is (to me) mighty confusing. But I am hoping there are some Google Adsense/SEO geniuses here on GFY who could point me in the right direction. Are there any (good) Google Adsense tutorials anyone could recommend? I know a lot of this is trial-and-error but I'm looking to read up on the basics so I can get a foundational knowledge of what to do rather than trying blindly like I did a couple months ago. :) Thanks in advance!! |
I am Adwords certified, etc., but I have to ask that are you talking about Adsense or Adwords? It seems like you are talking about Adwords, not Adsense. Or about both perhaps?
While you are at there, would you check my question in here. https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-pr...rams-days.html |
You mean Adwords?
Depends on what you're advertising.... Good place to start is by choosing only [keyword] = exact match keywords. Take it from there, choosing broad match keywords will be a poor ROI if you do not have any data to work on and will just cost you as a newbie. :2 cents: |
It's basically the same as buying traffic from an adult broker. Cast a wide untargeted net and go broke. Filter it down to country, device types, exact match keywords, run multiple ads one per keyword your targeting so the keyword your targeting is in the ad text resulting in more clicks. If you run an ad with 100 keywords and it doesn't perform then they drop your quality ranking which means you'll pay more per click. Drill it down to optimized ads based on keyword target and clicks/quality remains high and you'll spend less. Quality over quantity across the board in any media buying mainstream or adult. Tips above will help you but you will lose money in the beginning/learning process like I did 13 years ago when I started buying mainstream/adult advertising. Key is to analyze/adjust in the learning process so gradually the loss turns to profit. :2 cents:
|
:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh you are buying traffic?? wow
|
1) AdSense and not AdWords?
2) What are you advertising with this? |
Hard work just getting ads approved.
|
Sorry for the confusion but at least you know I'm telling the truth when I say I'm a total newb when it comes to all this stuff. LOL I meant AdWORDS (tho I will be playing with Adsense and YouTube in August...).
Thanks for the feedback and advice! The resistance has been what many of you pointed out: lose a lot while learning then slowly turn to profit. That's a tough road for a small company tho. It's hard to keep throwing money away at 'education' hoping for a good ROI down the line. |
LOL I'm sure you mean Adwords. Best way is to have one of these pros scan your campaign for a one-off fee, or to have one of them manage your campaign for a % monthly fee.
I do SEO not Adwords so take what I say with a pinch of salt but I do see a lot of Adwords campaigns. The best campaigns I've seen started with a massive splurge in week one and then sitting down at the end of the week and figuring which keywords/ads/countries/landing pages etc worked best and sinking everything you have into those in the months and years ahead. You lose a lot of money in that first week but make it up in the months and years ahead. |
Real players don't have to pay to play:2 cents:
|
Carefull with the ads, they are not big fans of adult themed ads anymore.
We spend well in the 7 figures with them until last August when they pulled that no hardcore/adult content stunt. Even blocking our softcore zero sex/porn mention tour. |

And I don't mind losing money for a week or 2-3 but to not see profitablity (or even return on intial cost) for months is tough to sustain. You're the first person who mentioned a week's time frame and I like that much better. :) Quote:

Few tips:
- Ads: it really makes difference even though the creativity is limited in the terms of space. Use the ads to filter potential customers (aka filtering non-wanted out) and to entice the potential customers to click your ads. - Use targeted keywords and phrases. You can even use broad keywords somewhat targeted if you use much negative keywords. You can also use broad keywords and to filter customers with ad text, but in this tactic you will pay higher rate or have lover ad position as your click through rate naturally suffers when you weed out lot of surfers. Anyways, weeding out surfers is almost always better than just blindly staring click through rates. - You can hire me to check out your campaign. |

Either way, I would get several books on the subject, and learn from there. With this you will have a good and needed foundation, and you wont be spending your money, in vain. As somebody already mentioned, you can mess it up too, and it is not worth it. AdWords requires constant work, as you are competing with other people. You would need to focus 100% on that, I would say. Another thing, which is good for this, is Google Analytics. I've never worked on AdWords, but I may, for what I will be planning to do. It is good traffic, and there is a lot of people competing for it, too (like, lets say dating traffic, and try to make profit, off that). |
Get out while you can!!! Trust me, count this as an expensive lesson and walk away from Google Adwords!
Regardless of how many tutorials you study or how well you think you understand Adwords; it will never help. They change their algorithms on a whim, and what worked yesterday will cost you a shit ton of money with no returns today. The way I see it (and experienced), as long as Google has your credit card information on file, they WILL max it out, and then you're forced to fight for it back. And that's a fight you're not likely going to win. :2 cents: RUN, FORREST! RUN!!! |

With cams and dating I'm sure there is a profitable mathematical equation where it all makes sense but, as with traffic selling/buying in adult, that's not a game I want to become expert in. Mainly because of this: Quote:

But what you wrote Rob is why I never played the SEO game in the first place. I'm always happy I made that choice whenever webmasters wake up one morning and find their PR1 site has dropped to PR57. But also what Roald wrote is amazing (but not surprising I guess). You think all is ok, your company spends 7 figures with Google, then WHAM it's all fucked. So what chance would a small fry like me have with Google? I'm thinking it's not worth even trying at this point. :( |
If you want to advertise porn websites, I would look into doing it, somewhere else. You may spend some time learning AdWords, investing money in that, and they end up banning your account. I would contact them, to begin with, and make sure that any of the websites, that you want to advertise, will be ok with them, long term.
As far as adult ad networks, you can contact people who work there, and aks them, what would be the best, for what you are trying to do. Contact 10 or more places, talk to people from all of them, and you will know what to do, more or less. You could probably invest in seo, or social media marketing (like Twitter, which is good for xxx sites), instead. Or, maybe even better, work on having more active affiliates. |

I love the idea of talking to different ad networks. I think because of the responses here (thanks to all) I will not try playing with Google Adwords. The last thing I want is what you described (and what Roald experienced). And heck, if none of this works there's always.....cams & dating, right? :D |
They approved your account, so I would contact somebody like an account manager there, AdWords, and talk to them. AdWords is good method of advertising, and it is 10 times better than banner ads, lets say, as people search exactly for what you will be trying to advertise. If you can do it, and then do it correctly, it can be a good and profitable thing. None of the ad networks, that I mentioned will have something as good as AdWords or traffic from search (people search for "sign up to xxx paysite", "buy paysite membership", and this will convert). When people see a banner on a website, is has some effect, but it is like 10 times less effective, than good traffic from search (also AdWords). If you can do it, I would work on that, but you would need to focus, or even get some good people to work on this. You cant work on something else 90% of the time, spend $100 per day on AdWords at the end of the day, see how it goes... This wont work.
I am not sure if there will be info about xxx sites at semrush.com, but you can check it out. It is probably the best research website, for what you would be trying to do. You could get a lot of keywords and other data, from there. There is other tools too. If you can do it, I would go over some books from amazon.com Dating websites are ok for AdWords, and if you would do the research with semrush.com, it would show you, that close to 50% of dating domains, actively advertise through AdWords. 10 days free trial at SafariBooksOnline.com |
I just sent an email to adwords support. I mentioned that they are cock blocking my campaign and was wondering if their placement algo was run by three monkeys.
Wish me luck, I think I may have succeeded in my request for clicks at a lower rate. Will for sure update this thread on my success. |
Talking to them on email or phone won't give you any kind of protection. Of course it could give you guidance, but those people won't be the ones approving/disapproving your ads (except in the case of an appeal maybe). They could say it's ok and then your ads get disapproved by someone else the next day, like Roald said. It's a really subjective process on their reviewers' part too, and they don't even always follow their own guidelines. There are no guarantees, and it's easy to get disapproved and banned.
It also sounds to me like you were just lucky getting your site approved, I wouldn't rub it in their faces. Pics with mild sexual content get disapproved too. Also, are you positioning your site as sex education in your ads, and then trying to sell porn membership to those people? That would be one answer why it doesn't work, it's not proper targeting. Sure, it could work with free traffic for which big ratios are acceptable, but not when you're paying money for every click. |
My experience with adwords : I spent a lot of $ on two campaigns (for cam WLs) only few tiny sales and the better thing is that now I have better rankings on serps without any SEO work ! End of story !
|
If you're content/advertising is not 100% (and by 100% I mean 100%) in line their terms then I would avoid Adwords.
Last thing you want is a lifetime ban. |

Doing PPC for adult is very DICEY, bro.

Google Adwords is an entire marketing game, that is why most people in adult fail, since they have not learned to market anything because the traffic has always been there, so I recomend you to start with this guy:
