Actually it was kind of like a calculator in reverse, you would be shown a problem and have to provide the answer. The difficulty got harder as you went up 'levels'.

Texas Instruments made a bucketload on these but not as much as they lost by not keeping the TI series of professional calculators up to date, allowing HP to overtake them in the professional calculator market, once the HP 41 was released, TI had basically lost all ground in the calculator wars.

I taught my classmates to spell BOOBS on it - 5p a go - Recurring at 45p a month + cross sales...

Things never change - New content was the biggest problem.....

oh shit I had one of those. I totally forgot about them. I also had the baseball one just like it. I always hated baseball then and now but that game was fun.
