Technology is scary

I have a Surface Pro 2, love it, but wanted a little bit of a larger screen. The Surface Pro 2 is part laptop and part tablet, but more of a tablet because of the screen size. So I upgraded to a Surface Pro 3.

Got the new Surface Pro 3 this morning (God bless Amazon!) and the first thing it does is it asks me for my Microsoft login.... Son of a bitch.... It took ALL of my settings from my Surface Pro 2 and set them up in my new computer - including the wallpaper and other minor settings.

Yikes that's scary.

God only knows what Google has on all of us.

You are 2/3's my age and this stuff still surprises you? My dad might be astounded, but I doubt it.

I doubt the intention was to convey his surprise about security - but to announce the acquisition of a Surface Pro3.

We had a kid in his early 20s that worked for us - constantly brought a new toy or gadget to work each week. I started calling it "Show & Tell Wednesday". One day I finally had enough of it and told him to put it away (a pair of pilot's headphones)...and he could play with it at recess.

I've never purchased a computer before and had it copy over all of my settings including apps and wallpaper. My cell phones do that, but not usually computers.

MrBottomTooth 07-19-2015 03:43 PM

All win8 machines can do this.

CaptainHowdy 07-19-2015 03:51 PM

I thought you saw Chappie ...

klinton 07-19-2015 04:06 PM

maybe I'm stupid or sth, but the first question is:
why on earth do you have microsoft account/login ? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

and later you are surprised ?:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Cool you happy with your new surface pro :)

the Surface Pro 3 is still a tablet. Should've waited till 4 cause I heard rumors that it will have SSD drives.. Not 100% but normally when you buy gen 1, 2, &, 3 you are called a fanboy. lol but I guess it could be worse if you were a apple fanboy. :2 cents:

On the one hand think I'm living in the best time frame. Have grown up with records, 8 tracks, cassettes, cds, internet, smart phones etc... but think at some point technology in the future will reach the point where some may wish they lived in earlier times. Maybe when your id/debit card etc... is barcoded on your hand. :2 cents:

Imagine how shocked you'll be when you realize how deep technology has gone.

Think along the lines of classified illegal experiments on human beings found out decades later to the absolute shock of the general public.

Have you ever seen the movie "The Net"? Illegal psychological experiments using social media, Gvoice, email, etc. FB admitted to this a couple years ago with placements of posts etc.

never had 8 tracks but in 76' I remember having my own record player at 6 yrs old.. LOL I didn't think it was weird back then but I had Elvis Presley and Kiss albums.

I still remember our first gaming system as Pong. Gaming has come a long way!

I'm actually tired of "the best and latest smartphones".. In a few weeks I'm going to a prepaid android phone. I have a nice Samsung tablet and nice laptop.. I hardly ever go out anymore so it's a waste to pay $100+ a month for a phone when I use under .02 gigs per month.

Mom had the record player so same shit was a kid flipping through her albums, mainly dug Journey, Zeppelin, Beatles and Pink Floyd out of her collection. Later on Stepdad had 8 track collection which was a little more assorted Alice Cooper, Elton John etc...

Kid I went to grade school with use to go fishing, stick the live fish in his freezer and then put on a Kiss 8 track and beat the frozen fish with a hammer on a rock in his front yard. Thought for sure I'd see him on the news someday but guess he hasn't snapped off yet. :1orglaugh

I am not the type of person who "must have the latest and greatest". I upgrade or update when I have a need for it. My PC is three or four years old now, works great.

I have to have a phone because I have a wife and a kid. We had an extra line on our account, and they were giving away free iPhones (Verizon) so I got one. It's a cell phone; It doesn't do anything my Android cannot do.

ya I was just joking about the iphone. I could care less what people use for a phone. I'm 3 weeks from my verizon contract to end and then I was going to get verizon prepaid, but I think I'm going with Total wireless. I can get a 4.3" moto e android for $80 and for 3 lines it's $85 with unlimited talk/text and 9gigs shared net. Right now I pay $90 at verizon for unlimited talk text and 2 gigs net for one line.

Yep, we had Pong when it came out. It kept me amused a few hours, then collected dust.

I was around 8 yrs old when I got my first record player. The first record I remember buying was a K-Tel collection. And of course, every third song had a skip in it from the factory. They used awful vinyl, the audio signal was heavily compressed...and songs were edited down to about 2 mins. each.

ya I never understood the deal with today's collectors saying the only way to listen to music is vinyl. I remember it sounding like crap back in the day.. I had a bunch of 45 singles too.

Collectors who say that are fooling themselves. They make prefer the sound of Vinyl, but it is in no way better than CD's.

Personally I love "today" and today's technology. Think about it We have wireless touchpads to communicate, shop, listen to music, and a million other things. We all navigate effortlessly using GPS Satellites in orbit around the earth. We can communicate with almost anyone on the planet instantly, and we're sending robots to other planets, while discovering new planets almost every day now. Smart self-driving cars are already on the roads now too. Just freaking awesome.

Damn Hipster movement. Had a younger chick that was shocked I listen to a certain artist even though he's basically the same age as me. Guess she thought she was cool listening to him on her vinyl even though she was probably 10 when I bought the shit on cassette when it first came out. Now If ya have a killer turntable with an expensive needle I'll admit shit does sound good. But keeping records in good shape warping, scratches etc... along with the space they take up seems like a pain in the ass considering digital version can be downloaded and good to go with no maintenance or worries. :2 cents:
