Moscow-born startup investor Yuri Milner has enlisted the help of the world?s leading scientists, including Stephen Hawking, in a renewed search for alien life using latest technological advancements, on which more than $100 million will be spent over 10 years.

"There is no bigger question," physicist Stephen Hawking said through a digital voice generator during a glittering presentation in London. "It is time to commit to finding the answer to search for life beyond Earth."

i have an opinion on a subject that i am fascinated by and have delved deeply into. gfy is about posting opinions and views, so i articulate mine.

i'm fine with your sadness about that but there's nothing sad for me about enjoying and learning about a subject and formulating a personal view on it. :)

I must be going crazy but my initial thought of $100 million was that it seemed pretty low... Considering.

I believe that there are advanced civilizations out there somewhere but not within range of ever coming in contact with.

and you very well may be right. it's all in the odds. astronomical odds. the odds of life happening are astronomical in their own right, combined with that, life evolving into technology producing civilization is truly astronomically rare. at the same time, the universe is astronomically massive which allows for greater opportunity. and the other thing to consider is coincidence. perhaps a tech producing civilization has already come and gone in the 14 billion years of the universe. perhaps they are currently evolving yet are a few million years off from us, a tiny fragment of time really. also considering the timeline, a tech producing civilization would also have a statistically high chance of being wiped out by a natural disaster prior to sorting out inter-stellar travel/etc., just like we are.

for me, all of those combined strongly suggest we are the only tech producing civilization, in at the very least, the visible universe at this time.

Maybe the aliens will have a cure for that.
