I have lost a few thousand between them; I think StuartD got me for the most at around $1,500.

Did you ever meet them face to face? I vow to start going to shows now, at least one a year. 15 years in the industry and my kid is grown, no need to lay low to protect my family. |

I'm one of those Irish, dedicated until the end type people, and as you see in all my time on GFY never complained about being ripped off on here, ever. But this one is deeply personal. What did you do? |

Always remember, business is business, and the only thing more import to people than money if family and even then

I'm in a tight spot and had total trust. I might have been completely scammed and this might have to be my first time sucking up my pride and admitting I was totally wrong. Oddly nobody from the Shap thread answered my question a couple days ago asking if Freelancers.com might be a good alternative source for programmers. Fucking sucks right now  |

Why did you pay him in advance? What for? Etc etc |

So likely I'll A) get my money back and my business plan is leaked or B) I don't get my money back and my business plan is leaked. At this point I'm assuming it was leaked from the beginning as I was told "You probably have a maximum of 1 week before other people start figuring this out" Probably code for I'm taking your money and your idea, you have one week to figure it out, this was around July 7th almost 2 weeks ago. |

I was just thinking about it, I have been ripped off mainly by Canadians and one Dutch guy that got me pretty good. Server Genius, lent him a significant amount of money, never saw a Euro of that back. Yeah, met and partied with him too. Don't loan money, don't buy stuff via Paypal and never pay up front. |

What about buying "programming" services via paypal? :disgust |
Beeing scamed its nothing new but thatals a lot

But typically you may have to pay 50% down and risk that. |

I can contribute and spend my time on other non adult tech related platforms, while still working in adult, and be content. It's kind of like facebook, if you're contributing and not benefiting, it's wasted energy. If there's no true camaraderie, and it's expected that one of us will steal what another has left, if he can, then this isn't a good place for any of us. There are some good people here, and people who work in adult are a rare breed, but we can meet up other places that aren't adult related you know :2 cents: |
Think I've only done some smaller deals here in the xxx range but got the shit before payment so no chance of getting ripped. :2 cents:

use amx with paying with paypal i did 15k in chargebacks on a coding company once that delivered shit.
they were shocked i was able to chargeback shit 6 months back. dumbases :) I wont every pay anyone with paypal without using a amx :) Quote:

50% down has worked pretty well for me :thumbsup |
Nothing.
Always paid on delivery and acceptance. Except with a handful of very trustworthy people with a history of delivering. No one lost money with us either. |
For not doing my due dilligence and refusing to give up on someone that should've been let go probably in the xx.xxx range. I can only blame myself for that though.
Scammed? No more than a few K over the years. It's all just the cost of doing business... in any business. |
I just lost ten bucks loaning them to someone who needed to renew a domain ...
|
A few K back in the wild early days with simply not paying customers.

I actually have a funny anecdote regarding this.
I was scammed only once, and it was for less than 100 bucks. However, upon completing a rather large project ($40.000 +), the client disappeared without paying me the last $2.000. It took months and a lot of headaches but I was finally able to track down one of his partners and got him to pay. In reality, I was lucky. When I finally get the money in my epass account, 2 days later epass shuts down and my 2k are frozen. About a month or so later I am finally able to extract my cash. |

The only time I've not been paid was by PinkStar Cash. However, the owner went in for an operation and was never heard from again. Eventually all of the sites expired. Still not sure what happened there; I am assuming the owner didn't make it out of the hospital.

posting peoples kid here is fuking low :2 cents: :disgust take the shit to court :2 cents::2 cents: stop posting babies and shit

I have never been totally ripped off by hiring someone from GFY. I've had more than one...maybe three.. designers who's nice samples in no way matched the quality of the work I received. But the work was at least done, and something was delivered to me. The only direct P2P kind of deal that I got ripped off on happened on hahahahahahaha. Otherwise, just industry standard stuff. IBill, Epass, programs that Dee bought, etc. |
Not much, I had a few issues here and there but overall I had better experiences than hiring people from other places.

Learn from other peoples mistakes.
When you have not been referred to someone that you know and trust ... independently research and check their references. Do not just email or call the references they have provide you. Second escrow larger payments. Good luck! |

To be honest, until I saw a death certificate, I would not believe he was dead. |
I lost $1,500 to a programmer, but that's the only time I've been had on an actual project..
I did eventually get the project after about 6 months (was supposed to take 2 weeks), but it didn't work and was worthless for what I wanted it to do. |

There is one other person here that owes me money, but the GFY crowd could not handle hearing it.
I will save that story for my swan song. |

I'm amazed by the number of people who get scammed here. Most of the stories I hear it was someone going for the lowest bid, with someone with no track record or that person. There's a reason some can come in at a very low price. And make profit margin of 100%. |
Nothing too major. I hired a guy to make a logo for me. He was going to charge me $150. I paid him half up front and never heard from him again.
