Men gain weight when they become dads, study confirms

Dad bod is real. Science says so.

Men who become fathers experience weight gain and an increase in body mass index, a measurement of body fat based on height and weight, according to a new, large-scale study that tracked more than 10,000 men over a 20-year period. Men who didn't become dads actually lost weight over the same time period.

The findings by Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine were published Tuesday in the American Journal of Men's Health. Researchers describe the study on fatherhood and young men's BMIs as the first of its kind.

Perhaps you're a dad but you just don't know it

I love studies that say large percentages of the population are all the same

Input vs. Output is all that counts, you don't gain or lose weight psychologically

Not if they get AIDS

Duh.

Men with children are typically older. Older man gain weight.

Did we really need a study for that?

I wonder how many MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars went to funding that awesome research

Now it depends how good your kid sleeps at night and how active he/ she is during the day. I did not gain even 1 kg extra but I've got some white hair since I became a father :)

Size I am, I should be a great, great, great grandfather by now... :(

Since becoming a father, I've become more fit than I was in my 20's because I don't want to become an old man too soon. I'm not sure what it is about fatherhood that makes a guy in worse shape. I've used the experience to become an expert in time management, and one of the things I wanted to do with my time is get a Tyler Durden body.
