Original Playboy Pinball Machine - whats it worth?

I found a Playboy Pinball Machine from the 70's or 80's.

They are asking $2500 for it. Is it a good deal?

sandman! 07-21-2015 05:07 PM

looks like an ok deal i would think.

EliteWebmaster 07-21-2015 05:10 PM

Mark, the circa of it is 1978. Condition is fair but could use a bit of work. If he is willing to ship it, I would give him $2000 for it.

Robbie 07-21-2015 05:11 PM

Here ya go MP. I used this thing you might not have heard of yet called "google" to find this for you:

Looks like it is a deal.
Congrats on your purchase, Mr. Prince.

I'm a big pinball fan, and that's not a good game, IMHO, and it's only rated at #192 here: Top 300 Rated IPDB Pinball Machines

That same place rates Creature from the Black Lagoon--one of my favorite games--at #10, so I'd guess their ratings do reflect the quality of the games.

192 does not sound that much worse than 1:
Fun of 1st = 8.4
Fun of 192nd = 7.5

L-Pink 07-21-2015 06:03 PM

Spend half that on a Sybian. You'll use it more and your wife (and hopefully a friend or two of hers) will love you for it.

I'm guessing you've played little pinball. Fun is one factor, but things like the playfield, audio, and how the game plays are also important. And my comment was based on the fact I'd played both games and really liked Creature and hadn't liked Playboy, and only used the ratings to illustrate the fact the ratings were probably fairly accurate.

My fun factor in replying to your post is 5.3.

EliteWebmaster 07-21-2015 10:31 PM

From a fun perspective, I agree, it's a boring game and not surprised it got a low rating. For a pinball collector, it's a must have because it is an iconic piece and pinball machines appreciate in value so they make good investments assuming you have the space to store them and do proper maintenance on them.

If I wanted a fun pinball game to play, I would rather play the Simpsons pinball or The Kiss pinball games

$2500 is nothing for the original Playboy pinball. But the condition of this one is a bit questionable :2 cents:

I thought that fun factor was the conclusion result based on audio, playfield and everything else combined. As in good audio adds to the fun while playing, good playfiled ads to the fun while playing etc :)

That is why I only took that one number.

Theoretially lets take:
1. Audio 9.5 playfield 9.5 Fun 8.5
2. Audio 7 playfield 7 Fun 9

Which one would you play? I think the core thing is to have fun, so if #2 is more fun who cares if #1 has better audio and playfield.

Of course those numbers would not happen, but I just wanted to illustrate that only fun number is important as a conclusion of how good is the game and how great do you feel while playing.

we had a Black Knight 2000 in our band rehearsal room - Number 92 is not so bad - it was definitely fun to play

1) Buy it
2) Ship it to Detroit
3) Go on Hardcore Pawn
4) Get their standard offer of 50 bucks, act out like all their customers do, scream 'racists' at them
5) Get thrown out

I didn't buy it. Just saw it and thought it was interesting. What I would love to find though would be an original Space Invaders game that was in good shape but not a bank-breaker.

cool link but guns and roses pinball game shouldn't even be in the top million.. there was so much hype put into that game and it was a clunky piece of garbage that was barely playable. world cup soccer was awesome though.

shit, now i need to grab a machine...

JFK 07-22-2015 07:25 AM

I owned pinballs before, after a few months, you get tired of playing the same old shit! Then there's the repair factor:2 cents: :winkwink:

mineistaken 07-22-2015 07:31 AM

Current brand new ones cost 5-7k?
If so - 2.5k is not so much of a value for "colectible".

yuu.design 07-22-2015 07:57 AM

omg, i loved this thing!

C H R I S 07-22-2015 09:38 AM

I love pinball - played that one at the PB mansion and at a bar a few times. Not the funnest pinball machine.

If your buying it for the Playboy mystique or a showpiece go for it. If yourbuying for fun there are many others that have much better game play.

1726cash 07-22-2015 10:00 AM

If you are a real Fan will be a great deal and the cash its not the big deal. If you are not, not.

DVTimes 07-22-2015 11:36 AM

Make sure its 100% working, or it could be expensive.

GFED 07-22-2015 04:16 PM

Used to love pinball. Could play all day for a quarter.

michael.kickass 07-23-2015 06:43 AM

Sounds a bit expensive to me. :2 cents:

Knew The Addams Family had to be up in the top 10. I use to wear that machine out at a little local bar.

SekobA 07-23-2015 01:12 PM

Not sure but better seach the net before buying it
