A Little Advice Needed in the DVD realm....

Wasteland has been online since 1994, but has never gone into any mail order to stay out of orange jump suits for shipping physical products over state lines as all of that library is BDSM and a legal red flag for many local jurisdictions.

But, we have a new library - Sexy Fembot Movies Home | SciFiDreamgirls.com - that is perfect for retail and wholesale DVD distribution. Episodic with thru-put storyline. 11, 90-Minute Season compilations ready to go. Very unique SciFi Fembot porn starring Ashley Fires as a mad scientist in outer space (yes. odd, but compelling).... All very safe for DVD and even hotel PPV, cable, etc.

My question is, do any of you know of a good DVD replication house that can do short runs for DVDs to drop ship to Gamelink and any other distributors or broadcasters that would like to carry the line? Short runs of <30 per title.
All masters, box cover and meta docs are ready.

Ironic thing is I have been in adult for 21 years and now just dipping my toe into the DVD market!

Thoughts?
Colin

We used to replicate and ship our CDs/DVDs in-house years ago...but it got to be a logistics chore that was never really worth our time and effort.

No advice for a third party to offer, sorry.

But wanted to give the thread a bump - I've been a fan of the quality work you folks have done over the years. :thumbsup

finding that should be easy prolly one in your town....one thing to be wary of I ran into it many times, they will use terms like replication and duplication etc

note there are TWO ways to create a dvd one is with a dvd blank like what you use to create a dvd from your pc this uses a dvd blank that has a layer of ink it that ink is turned into data when the laser strikes it creating what looks to the player like holes.

the other is to make a dvd like you buy in a store its MUCH more durable and reliable specially as you get to dvd9 and bluray. They make a "glass master" and the process of creating the product produces a dvd with lots of actual holes in it to create the binary data on the disk this is the preferred method

even using the best method in q100 you should be looking at no more than a couple of bucks, including the dvd and the case most will even stuff your pre printed inserts into the dvd case so you have a ready to ship product

To produce 30 units at a time creating a glass master is not going to be worth the cost. You can produce say 300 at a time from glass but you won't really be making any profit, especially if anyone demands terms. Net 30 really means "will pay maybe in 90 to 120 if I feel like it".

For I think what Colin is looking for, doing a glass master for small, made to ship orders probably is not going to be worth it.

Right now, it is also important to note that there are companies flooding the market with super cheap catalog so getting into stores is not going to be easy.

His best bet, based on what he is saying, would be to focus on getting cable licensing since then he won't need to run any DVDs at all, imho.

from what I remember when we licensed for DVD's the costs of creating a glass master were something around $1000 circa 5 - 6 years ago, plus you have to add in the retailer's cut so if you'd be selling at say $15 retail and could keep a half of it you'd have to sell cca 133 to cover the cost of the glass master alone.

Now if the material would be compelling you could also license it out where the distributor would keep the dvd rights and covered the production and retail costs, but for that you probably wouldn't get offered a fair enough price. Plus you have to be very careful not to get burned.

Now for TV that's a whole different story and much more lucrative from the licensing point of view as you elimitate the retail and production costs and reach a much bigger audience right away thus may be also able to get a reasonably better deal. Had solid success with PPV.

Then there's hotel PPV where many hotel chains were able to free themselves from Lodgenet TV exclusivity by engaging IPTV. Another great market to exploit.

If you have a storyline and ideally also soft versions of these titles now that's exactly something that sold very well back then.

Anybody with current experience feel free to correct me with more up to date data.
